Mainly, I know him from [the very first promo video for The Phantom Of The Opera.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2zxzaWgVRA&ab_channel=ALWVEVO) (Note the slightly different lyrics.) IIRC, he wanted to play the Phantom onstage, but they decided they were looking for a less rock-influenced interpretation, and went with a certain actor who was known for comedy up until then
