I think my wristwatch comparison hit closer to home than even I realized.
Some wristwatches(like mine) don’t have user-serviceable batteries. Well, okay, technically I could change out my battery if I wanted… but I’d need 2-3 specialized tools and fairly exact instructions on how to do it, so for all practical purposes it’s not user-serviceable. Some wristwatches have just a phillips screw on the back.
Apple MP3 players and phones don’t have user-serviceable batteries, other companies make MP3 players and phones that do. If it’s such a HUGELY IMPORTANT issue for you, buy one of theirs. Apple doesn’t have a monopoly on either.
Some watches only tell the time, or maybe have an alarm and nightlight(pretty common these days), others are highly programmable and have built-in calculators and whatever.
Apple stuff does what it’s designed for, other MP3 players do what they’re designed for, which may include being easily-programmable or having a radio or whatever.
I really don’t see why this is such a big issue, though. I’ve never needed to change a battery in my iPod. The one time the battery started to fail, I just shrugged and got a new one because the old one was by that time too small for my collection. You really have to use it a lot to wear down the battery.
From all I hear the Mac OS is excellent; and the components made by others of high quality well integrated together.
Sadly, all Apple products look exactly like boring minimalist kitchenware.
You are pining for the days when the iMac’s original bulbosity took the kewl looking design world by storm, and we all had waffle makers and disk drives of translucent purple plastic?
I’d settle for an iPad I don’t have to put friction tape on to prevent it from slipping through my hands when I pick it up.
No, it’s more like buying a toaster oven and wanting to use it to toast bread, bagels, frozen pizza, etc., what most people use toaster ovens for.
Instead the user has to buy Apple-brand bread made in their special proprietary shape and size because the manufacturer says that’s how it’s going to be, and any attempt to deviate from that unwavering standard will be dealt with every time the toaster oven is serviced, which happens regularly and frequently against your will simply by virtue of having it plugged in. But the packaging sure looks stylish, doesn’t it?
I swear, it seems like Apple puts more effort into making sure the customer doesn’t deviate one iota from their vision than they do into giving the customer what they want.
And the amazing thing is this: people not only go for it, they advocate for it.
Fuck Apple (until they bring out the iphone on Verizon).
BTW their laptops are undoubtedly overpriced for what you get, their desktops not so much but the desktops don’t have the same “look at me, I’m cool enough to overpay for a computer” factor.
Your cites supporting these “facts” ought to be entertaining, let’s see them. Go ahead, knock yourself out - as an added bonus you might think more clearly when you come to.
So that’s “bloated” taken care of, and I say that as an iTunes user (although since I discovered WinAmp now does iPod syncing in the course of researching this…)
Also if Apple is so great why are they too fucking stupid to do music sync right? My android phone self syncs. Copy my music to it’s sd card and that’s it. It figures the rest out on it’s own. If Apple is so great why can’t the Ipods and the like work that way?
I don’t even understand what this means.
All I have to do is plug my iPhone in to my Mac, and it syncs my music, videos and podcasts - I don’t even have to copy anything manually.
I am currently considering buying an Apple laptop and the big thing in its favor is that it is less likely to be infected by a computer virus. If I have to pay a little more at the beginning and don’t have to worrly about virus protection or fixing it if it is infected would be worth it.
It means if I want to add music to my phone without getting up over wifi, I can. It means I can add music and video to my phone without specialized software. Hell there’s android apps to auto sync over wifi.
If I go over to my cousins and he has some great video to blackmail my aunt after a little too much egg nog we can just copy right to my phone to blackmail on the go. Also if for some reason I became daft and possibly rabid, I could install Itunes and use a program called double twist to sync it with my phone.
So in short the mac solution is quit inferior. My android phone can sync anything yours can, and unlike defective apple crap, it can handle self syncing.
Further, I can install apps not in the system’s market without rooting my phone. Can you?
“If Apple does it, it’s a feature; if Microsoft does it, it’s a bug”.
I heard it here and has become my default position. I’ve never owned an Apple product and possibly never will, not because they are good or bad, simply because I have no interest.
I owned and iPhone 3GS. And I’d probably still own it, but AT&T’s service is so bad I couldn’t take it anymore.
That said, I’ve got a Droid X now and I like it more than the iPhone. If nothing else, I can, get this, drag and drop stuff straight to the phone. No file conversions. No failed file conversions.
Just drag and drop. It’s almost like it’s 2010 or something.
