Care to reconsider?
Nope.
At least reconsider.
Out of the last 2 years, he’s played 4 games I’d consider HIGH PRESSURE (each of the BIG 12 Championships, and 2 BCS title games) and gotten obliterated in 3 of them. Obliterated.
All it seems like he’s capable of doing is winning the Big 12, which – with KSU and Nebraska off the map – is now composed of 2 teams, OU and Texas.
Well, here’s the thing. Last night’s game wasn’t Stoops’ fault so much as it was a horrendous display of turnovers. Add that to the fact that you’re playing the most talented team in college, you’re going to lose. The Sooners got out-played, not out-coached.
What it came down to WAS coaching. Norm Chow obviously saw the flaws in the OU secondary that Stoops didn’t. If you read what most sports writers said before and after the game, on paper the teams are very close. If they didn’t get out-coached how do you explain their 92 yard opening drive for the TD and then nothing? Carroll made adjustments and Stoops didn’t.
Using turnovers as an excuse is… well just that, an excuse. There were two truly boneheaded turnovers - the first interception and the muff job on the punt. Stoops didn’t have them prepared and didn’t motivate them to at least try and make it close in the second half.
I wasn’t actually wanting him to reconsider Bob Stoops. I agree that he’s one of the best in the college biz. I think maybe he should reconsider some of the others, particularly Carroll or Meyer.
