I enjoyed the book and audio book, and am looking forward to the movie. This teaser trailer didn’t really work for me though, for many of the reasons already stated. Hopefully the movie itself will do the book justice, not that I’m particularly worried. Hmmm, Stormbringer and Mournblade would definitely be artifacts, but Elric would certainly be recognizable enough to show your nerd cred to other Gunters. The thing with avatars is they’re just skins, they don’t actually do anything other than tell people how much money you’ve spent on them. ---

While the story makes it clear that much of the virtual world–and especially the quest laid out by the creator–is heavily influenced by 80s games and movies, there’s no reason not to see references to other decades.
