Steven Spielberg to direct Ready Player One adaptation

Ready Player One movie posters based on classic posters. Mostly from the 80s but a couple outliers (Bullitt, Matrix, Iron Giant). These are official posters but I guess not widely distributed (yet?)

^Clever with the Iron Giant poster.

Early reviews seem to land somewhere between “It’s alright; pretty empty though” and “It’s pretty good; sort of empty though”. Fan response to the early screening at Southwest Film Festival was positive (with the obvious caveat that these were people jazzed up to see it).

Sounds like it’ll be largely enjoyable, nothing life changing and at least not “This is the worst mess to be spat at a screen this decade” or anything.

I imagine this movie is going to be one of those movies that’s exactly what it is.

It’s a nostalgic trip down memory lane with cool visuals from a director who knows how to direct a good time. It’s not an Oscar movie, it’s not a life-altering experience, it’s just a good time at the movies remembering shit from your youth.

I’m mainly interested because it is Spielberg and I think he doesn’t often do bad movies, even if they have their flaws.

Here is a review of the movie. They seem to think it’s: Pretty good.

I won’t rush to the theater. Blu-ray? Absolutely. In fact, I’ll eagerly be awaiting it.
