I though this was one of the problems with Lucy. It would take more than eliminating the stupid stock shots and Morgan Freeman to save this film.

As an exact opposite example, this was used to perfection in Airplane!, where Striker has Vietnam flashbacks, and they eventually show stock footage of failed early attempts at flight.

Well, you can get both Vindicators AND Devastators in Dive Bomber (1941). Probably the source of stock footage for many films to come!

The original, actual BSG reused the same few SFX shots so often that they basically became stock footage. “Oh look, Starbuck destroyed a Cylon using Shot #4.”

This sort of thing occasionally happened on Star Trek episodes. I remember one episode of Voyager had a scene involving a shuttlecraft that was obviously a re-use of a Next Generation scene, complete with the “1701-D” markings on the shuttle.
