I’m posting this to the Pit because it will surely result in a lot of acrimony. A couple years ago, **Stoid** started a [thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=597317) in which she had an apparent epiphany about the true causes of obesity. She seemed pretty confident that she had it all figured out. A while later, she disappeared for a while but came back yesterday [recipe for honeywheat donuts](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=682051) So I really would like to know: 1. Stoid, do you still stand behind everything you posted in that thread? 2. Did it work out for you? If not, why not? ---

I’ll field this one: Stoid doesn’t know a goddamn thing about obesity/weight management, and while it would appear that she \*thinks \*she does, deep down inside, she knows she’s full of shit. Whatever magic she claims to have stumbled upon didn’t work for her, and she still is where she was. ---

Damn I found this from the donut thread and everyone’s talking about donuts and now I really want a donut. Back in high school I worked at a Pizza Hut right next door to a donut shop. We’d trade pizza for donuts on saturday nights after midnight. Man nothing beats fresh warm donuts right out of the fryer. ---

Whether or not someone can actually stick with something doesn’t mean they know or don’t know what works. Would you say someone who thinks that the secret to weight loss is running a calorie deficit, yet who is still fat was wrong about the calorie deficit thing? Similarly, a junkie who could recite all the medical literature about the techniques of controlling drug addiction may still be an addict. Questions about the biological impact of nutrition and the efficacy of various techniques of weight loss are scientific questions that can be answered objectively, not what anecdotes where the success or failure of one person to follow their knowledge tells us about it. ---

Stoid has directly attacked you. She has changed your words around. Therefore you can’t be talking to her by your own rules. For someone with an obsession, you seem to selectively remember things. I don’t know what you think is going to happen here. You see, **Stoid** is at least not a bigot, so she at least has value as a human being. No one is going to be on your side here, and **Stoid** is doing you a favor if she doesn’t respond.
