But yes to both points - Charleston is an amazing wonderful city (much prettier, IMO, than Savannah) and South of the Border must be seen to be believed. The other of South Carolina’s glories is - deep breath - Lowcountry mustard-based barbeque. (Now I must flee, for I have just uttered damnable heresy, and ten generations of eastern North Carolina ancestors are spinning in their graves.) SMV, ducking and running from a mob of vengeful Tarheels, my father at their head. ---

That’s the great thing about South Carolina - it’s the only place that indigenously contains all three kinds of barbeque. There are even places where you can get them all! So you don’t have to argue. ---

Oh, honey, 1/10 is probably overstating the case. What you don’t understand is that reaction to snow does not scale - a dusting means you don’t have to go to work! (On the other hand, you can’t get bread and milk at the grocery store. So there’s that.) This year for the first time in my life I made the kind of snow man that you roll. I took a picture and sent it to my Pittsburgh relatives. ---

Why y’all arguing about BBQ? It doesn’t matter how they make the sauce, it’s damn good! (Though I am contractually obligated to mention that some of the best damn BBQ in the country, nay the world, can be found in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.) ---

If I even hinted that anything that doesn’t come from east of Goldsboro, N.C. is even worthy of the name “barbecue”, my Warren/Nash/Cumberland Co. relatives would call the sherriff for a 1013 involuntary committment. Lowcountry barbecue? That’s almost as bad Texas, where they barbecue _cows_, the unwashed heathens. ---

As yet another Okie who headed to California… I feel your pain. My home state of Oklahoma hits the news regularly. I even worked for some of its better nitwit politicians in my youth (Nickles and Inhofe). I cringe when I hear that Oklahoma is in the news - its either a tornado or an idiot - sometimes both. Then again, my new state of California has a nutjob stereotype in every county. ---
