Stop Panicking!

This went on for a while. If Biden does not quit by…oh, let’s say the 15th…then he won’t.

Texas is also growing plenty of Republicans. Gerrymandering does not have an impact on statewide elections such as Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General and about 6 other Executive offices. I’m not certain about the State Supreme Court but I think they are at large as well. Plus U.S. Senators. Also, no Democrat has carried the state in Presidential elections since 1976. To me that is a Red state.

I will drop this potential hijack now and just go back to trying not to panic about 2024.

Biden’s going on George Stephanopolous on the latter’s next program. Can’t remember if it’s a Sunday show or not. Caught that snippet today listening to Jake Tapper’s afternoon CNN program on Sirius XM.

As an aside: Tapper was heaping mountains of dung on Biden during today’s show. Donald Trump himself is probably wincing and thinking Tapper should take it easy on the President.

If Tapper – and CNN itself – has any kind of influence on anything, Biden is done. He either gets replaced as the Democratic nominee ASAP, or CNN (et al) runs interference for Trump all the way to Election Day.

Take it with a grain of salt, but a leaked internal post-debate poll purports to show Trump leading in 10 swing states, although two are within the margin of error.

He’s doing the interview later in the week. Parts will be shown on Friday evening, and the extended interview on Sunday.

Comparing polls from before and after the debate seems to indicate little change:

If this is accurate, then voters probably, in general, already considered Biden old and doddering, and included that already in their judgment.

Here another approach to not panicking, coming from an unusual Democratic House member in a district Trump will probably win if Biden stays in the race:

Donald Trump is going to win the election and democracy will be just fine

To me the election is above all about NATO, but others have different priorities.

Cognitive decline can happen slow and it can happen fast. It’s conceivable that Biden’s decline has accelerated. It’s clear to me that Biden currently operates at a higher level than Trump. Will that be the case in 3 months? Who knows?

If it were 4 years ago, Biden’s staff would be scheduling a nonstop raft of press conferences and public appearances. Apparently they aren’t convinced that will help now. To be fair, Biden is meeting with lawmakers and they’ve announced a set of public meetings. Normal people would find this dialed back Presidential schedule overwhelming. But normal people aren’t President.

I’ll remind everyone about paragraph 20 in the NYT article about Biden’s cognition:

Mr. Trump, 78, has also shown signs of slipping over the years since he was first elected to the White House. He often confuses names and details and makes statements that are incoherent. He maintains a lighter public schedule than Mr. Biden, does not exercise and repeatedly appeared to fall asleep in the middle of his recent hush money trial. His campaign has released only a three-paragraph health summary. Voters have expressed concern about his age as well, but not to the same degree as Mr. Biden’s.

I’ll observe that the US has a VP for a reason. Without judging whether Biden should step aside now, this is why.

Or at least it will until Trump marches the Marines into the Capitol and orders Congress disbanded for refusing to pass his agenda.

This, from another moderate Democratic House member, is arguably panic:

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Washington)

FWIW, that’s a link to a Sinclair-owned TV station. Something is afoot. This feels organized, and not in a savory way.

Add Julian Castro to the list.

This is what I was assured upthread that Democrats would NEVER do openly.

Things are developing fast and I’m beginning to feel a looming sense of doom, because I really think we’re screwed if Biden drops out, but if this keeps up it won’t be tenable for him to stay in.

Just saw a CNN poll that shows Harris only trailing Trump by 2 points.

Generally speaking, I don’t think that was the position.

I think the position was: what politicians are saying or not saying, openly, may or may not bear any resemblance whatsoever to what they’re saying privately.

Because politics.

And their basic cowardice and overwhelming self-interest virtually predicted that once one spoke out against another Biden candidacy publicly, others could reasonably be expected to follow suit.

Politicians aren’t the same stock of person who stormed Omaha Beach on D-Day.

You mean average people?

And at least one Democrat is fine with Trump winning. It’s stupid to say it, though.

After 20yrs of voting for the Democratic Presidential candidate, his district voted twice for Trump … by clear margins.

Endangered Species Effect

Craven little sh*t. I mean him, not you, just to clarify.

Yeah, I didn’t realize that Trump was taking applications for Kapo and Lagerpolizist jobs already.
