Since no one in my office cares, I’ll share my thoughts here. Is anyone else sick of the Subway commercials with the guy acting like it’s so cool to go there? I have nothing against Subway itself, but the guy is just plain annoying to me. It seems to me that this guy who acts so cool just hangs out at Subway talking to teenage employees all day, everyday. I think he’s the one who could use a refresher on what’s lame. Does any else agree with me or am I just venting useless fumes again? Isn’t there a better way to sell a sandwhich? ---

What’s worse is the guy who thinks it’s so cool to talk to the people working at Subway likes to go to competitors and _taunt_ them! He goes to a drive-through, sets them up by ordering something he knows they don’t have, then looks down at these poor kids working for minimum wage who put up with schmucks like him! Get a life, Subway barfly! ---

As bad as that is, **bup** , I think the worst one is where New Guy and Sandwich Artist are on the bus talking about whatever the latest sandwich sensation is. SA is supposedly off to work, and when the bus stops in front of the store, all the other passengers (having been whipped into a shark-like feeding frenzy by the _delicious_ sandwich descriptions) run in. I’ve pointed out the similarity to some people, and they said they couldn’t see it. The first time I saw New Guy, I thought he _was_ Dennis Leary, which almost made me cry. Then I realized that Leary would be pushing the double-meat BMT with extra bacon, a beer on the side, with a pack of unfiltered Camels for dessert, and all was well with the world. ---

I have no idea who this Subway guy is - when those ads come on, you cannot imagine how fast my mute button gets clicked. In this age of technology, when we have to capability to banish ads from our consciousness, I’m frankly surprised that anyone still watches them. ---

I concur. A friend of mine laughed at the end of the “bus ad” with the guy. I hate these commercials the second most on television. The IBM ones are the worst. ---

Subway is my favorite restaurant. These commercials make me hang my head in shame. I’d even take KFC’s ads over these. ---

What has always bugged me about these commercials is how he always knows the names of the people who make the sammiches. Do those people even wear nametags? At first I thought he was the owner of Subway or something…sorta like a Dave Thomas-ish type commercial where they make it seem like the owner knows all the drones that work for him. But no, just your average (and vaguely creepy) run of the mill idiotic commercial. ---

I had a girlfriend in college who worked at a Subway. There was this guy, we’ll call him “Paul” because I think that’s what his name was, who desperately wanted to be a regular. She would get home seething because this guy would come in at their busiest times and try to strike up conversations, try to “help out”, and chastize the people behind the counter because they couldn’t remember what his “usual” was. He also liked to order “I don’t know, suprise me” and then would proceed to complain that they made a sandwich he didn’t like. At one point the soda machine wasn’t working, and he started taking it apart before they could stop him. He would try to get them to stamp his Subway Club card multiple times, since he was such a “great customer”. He thought my girlfriend was flirting with him when she told him “Nobody here likes you, go away.” I think of Paul when I see those commercials. ---

My first real job was at a Subway, back in the late 70s. How old is Paul, exactly? I think he was a customer of mine, too. ---
