For me, it’s only if a sneeze is coming on. My wife, however, sneezes at any change into bright light. A gal I knew in college was very susceptible to photic sneeze reflex; it really complicated a traffic stop where the cop insisted on shining his bright flashlight in her face, and she couldn’t stop sneezing to answer his questions.
I have stopped sneezes by putting a finger or tissue under my nose, or by squeezing my nostrils shut because it stops irritants from getting further up my nose and triggering a sneeze I wouldn’t be able to stop. But I do need to blow my nose to get what it is out or there will be a sneeze eventually.
