Tried it today. Blocked by the AF ITstapo as a site that was classified as “anonymizing”.
It’s blocked here too, which is a good thing, cause I have to fix the viruses and stuff.
You folks have a FAX machine and a laptop with a modem?
My work usually has all internet blocked at my work desk since we take credit card payments there and they are worried about the security. Today, the internet magically appeared on accident. I’m not allowed to take payments, but I can be on the net!
So, here is my first, and most likely only (they are trying to fix it) post from my work desk.
I’m a Fed. We got no fun at all.
No SDMB, no Adult Content (a little overzealous about a personals site - not my fault some of them wanted sex), no music downloads, haven’t tried games, no chat, no outside email, nothin.
Of course, we are spending your money, and you are paying us to work. Those of us at the ‘lowly grunt’ level - meaning no one you would ever, ever hear of on the news - are very aware of that. And we don’t waste The People’s money. At least not where I work.
(OK, we do a lot of printing - but you have to do a lot of printing when you’re making models and writing papers. You just do. But we print double-sided whenever we can.)
Wait…can it be?
I’m posting this at work? How did this happen? This must be a gift.
Does Cecil hold power in these realms?
The school district sends all web traffic through the filtered server.
The thing is, hundreds of kids, and me, know how to put in a different proxy for Firefox. It’s usually slower, but you can get anywhere.
Ah, for last year… when we had the proxy that would load as fast as the authorizd one…
Dude, share with us.
Hmm… I’ll have to remember when I’m in the classroom. Basically, all you need is Google at home, the search term “proxy servers”, and a TA who will take the time to test them because she NEEDS to update her MySpace page.
Our filter is actually pretty lax but the SDMB just happens to be blocked. It says a bunch of crap followed by, “This page has been categorized as: Chat”
I know anonymizers are blocked too (and I wouldn’t want to have to answer to why I was using one in the first place . . . ) and we don’t have Admin rights so I can’t install Firefox and use it as a workaround.
I mainly just surf Slashdot, Google News, Snopes’ “What’s New” page, and a few UFC/MMA sites at work. I couldn’t ask for the SDMB to be unblocked because it’d have to be approved by our parent company in NYC who is very strict and impersonal, and we’re a securities firm so I really couldn’t justify it (to them, anyway.) I guess I’m kind of glad, because I’d be ninja-surfing it all day everyday if I could, but it would be nice to be able to check in on my breaks.
My receptionist asked me if we could buy some curtains for the window in her part of the office. I said sure, measure the window and see what you find in J.C. Penny’s online catalog. To our dismay, she couldn’t get into the Penny site. Her screen read, ACESS DENIED: REASON: CONTENT (BATHING SUITS.)
Just for my own curiosity, I tried to test out a proxy server from work and they’re also blocked.
