As a biology TA at the University of Missouri in the late '80’s I had Crystal Kleer (sp?) and Joy Rider as students one semester. Crystal I caught on to right away but someone pointed out “Joy Rider” to me. I had always said it with a pause between the names so I never thought it was unusual. What made it even stranger was that Joy was a male. He was a nice guy and one of my better (and most serious) students.

When I was doing customer service a number of years ago, I spoke to someone on the phone whose name was “Richie Cunningham.”

When I worked for an HMO, two of our subscribers were named Brabender and Outhouse. And one of our doctors was Dr. Bonebrake (thankfully, not an orthopedic surgeon).

I just have to post mine. My friend is Asian and his name is Wonhoe Foyu (One Ho for you) and my other Asian friends name is Bong Chu (Bong Chew) my other friends name is Michael Reynolds (reynolds wrap) and a girl in my Reading Class, her name is Gina Va (and well…when we go up to see our grades, its listed backwards.you know…va…)

“Truong” is a common Vietnamese name, and it sounds sorta like “truck”. Is it possible you misheard or misunderstood his name?

I know a man named Forest Bush. He was named after his father, and his nephew has the same name. Won’t someone make it stop?
I recently met a young guy named Keith Richards. He says his parents claim they had no idea.
David Bowie used to let people think he named his son Zowie Bowie, but his real name is Duncan Jones.

I don’t really know of any outright funny names, but I know a few odd ones. I had an orthodontist named James Bond, but he was pretty old and was born before the movies.
In college I had a biology professor named Dr. Eou, pronounced “ew”.
In high school I had a teacher named Hilton Yam. He later joined the FBI and became Special Agent Yam. I also knew of a teacher named Mr. Batman.
I went to gradeschool with a girl named Marjorie Dorry. I’m not sure why, but I remember we all found this very funny. I also knew a girl in gradeschool whose middle name was Milkmouth. Her full name was Donna Milkmouth Cole. I don’t know why her parents would do this to her. Another girl I knew in school was named Becky Fell. She had a brother named Tim, and one day, he actually fell down some bleachers during an assembly.
I’ve met a few people who have the misfortune of sharing a name with someone famous. I’ve met a Paul Simon and a Barbara Walters, the first selling insurance and the second a receptionist.
My mother works with a guy who has the craziest mafia movie name I can imagine: Mikey “The Shark” Angelucci. He has it printed that way on his business cards. I treasure the one she gave me. Around the office, people actually refer to him as Mikey the Shark.
One of my close friends is Vietnamese, and her first name is pronounced “Tron”. She gets endless crap from sci-fi fans. I also knew a woman from China whose real first name was Xiu, so she Americanized it to Sue. Her last name however, was Wong, leading to several embarassing “Suzie Wong” jokes. I once ran into an American Indian woman named Charlene Respects Nothing.
