# Strange IE graphics problem

I use IE 6.0, and have a cable modem, on a computer that’s barely a year old (gateway). Sometimes when I’m going back and forth between a couple websites (usually Netflix is involved for some reason) the graphics cease to display. Pages load just as fast, text is still there but most buttons, icons, and all pictures do not load. I routinely clear out the crap with disk cleanup, and even right after doing so everything works fine. This has happened while going back and forth from IMDB and Netflix several times. Ideas? Solutions?

I actually have seen this behavior on one occasion. The problem seemed to stem from a single image that was corrupted somehow, so that when IE tried to display it, the entire image displaying system locked up or was otherwise disabled. As soon as that particular image was loaded, all other image loading would fail until IE was closed and restarted. That’s the best I can give as far as a solution, other than identifying that killer image and emailing the webmaster of the site that hosts it.

I had this problem once, but rebooting the computer seemed to fix it. I actually started a thread on the subject at the time, and you can read the responses [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=189853&highlight=images).

I don’t even need to reboot, simply logging off and restarting IE does it. I know my setting haven’t been changed, so it’s not that. As I said, I do disk maintenance regularly. I run XP if that helps anyone.

Could be a corrupt image file in the cache. Try emptying Temporary Internet Files and see if the problem goes away.

The good news is I [found what the problem is](http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=003j8d). The bad news is that it appears there isn’t a fix out yet. Maybe use [Firefox](http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) for these sites till a fix comes out.
