Asked this question over in General Questions, but could not get an answer. Maybe some of you will know. I have a Mitred Conure Parrot that recently started a new behavior. When I hold him on my hand in front of my face, he juts his beak at my face, opens his beak and says “Hah” several times. It sounds kinda like blowing quickly with your mouth open. I get the impression that he is trying to scare me. Does anyone know what this means or why he does this? He is nine months old. ---

But when he wants a kiss he makes a different noise. A clucking noise. ---

Questions: Does he nip when he does this? It could be an aggressive/mating behavior. Our parrots exibit all sorts of odd behavior when they’re “in the mood”. Does he give you kisses AFTER the huffing thing? He may just be developing his own little way of saying “I love you” My best guess is he may be trying to “talk”. Not nessecerily words, but he may be imitating a sound. Does he talk at all now? (or imitate sounds?) ## I don’t have an answer to your question, but I do want to tell you that my aunt used to have a parrot that would swear in German. When she first got the parrot and heard it blabbering on, she assumed it was just baby talk or something. It wasn’t until her husband’s dear old grandma came to visit one time and heard the bird talking that they found out what it was saying (obviously, Grandma was from the old country). Yes, he does kiss me afterward and no he does not bite or nip when he does this. He says quite a few things like: What are you doin? What? Why? Hi Hi Hi, Good Boy, Pretty Boy and Step up. ---
