> Fine, think less of me if you wish, but consider this. (Also this is Canada, slightly different, but not THAT different)
>
> I had high grades in high school and recieved bursaries and scholarships (but not a full ride all expenses paid) to a 4 year university, changed majors, went to another one, decided that I was not going to make a living at anything I was interested in studying and opted not to finish. I worked for two years and decided to go back to school and take nursing.
>
> I could have gone to University. I had the grades, I would have only had to take core courses because all my electives would have been covered. But I CHOSE to go to community college because general wisdom then was “the college program gives you more hands on practical experience.” Also, I wasn’t sure I’d stick with it, having changed majors and schools previously.
>
> I know I can learn theory. I know I have good study habits, was in the top 10 of my graduating class in high school and made the Dean’s List 5/6 semesters in College. I chose to get the more practical experience and for a a long time most of the employers looked more favourably at college RNs rather than those with a BScN.
>
> Now the college program has been phased out and I am completing my BScN by correspondence. I am “grandmothered” in as a Registered Nurse, but I do want the letters behind my name, especially since I am now in management. I could have got that over with more quickly if I had gone the degree route, but really, even though doing my degree work at night, on-line, is sometimes annoying, sometimes tedious, and takes time from my family, I would not have done it differently.
>
> Ask yourself: do you want someone who has practical or theoretical knowledge, someone with lots of extra physiology courses who knows all the compounds that make blood clot or do you want someone who has applied hundreds of bandages and can do it quickly and well.
>
> Another thing about degree programs when technical, applied or community college programs exist, it drives up the price of labour and the cost gets transfered to the consumer, taxpayer or whomever ultimately pays. But hey, by all means insist your plumber, widget installer, telephone solicitor, have their Bachelor’s degree. Since you went to such a fancy dancy school I’m sure the extra charge will be no problem?
>
> **Say what? You’re a temporary substitute teacher?. I am a college graduate and have never ever been without a full time job when I wanted one, except for 4 months between my mat leave ending and a new fiscal year starting. Oh and I had no student loans to pay either, not from my college fees**.

I do think less of you. This last bit of information has nothing to do with what college I attended, but the state of the economy and factors I can not control. I will never communicate with you again. You don’t even live in the same country as I do, but you’re making big assumptions about my state of employment. Many full time teachers subbed before getting their jobs.

Since you look down at subs, I hope your daughter/son (since you clear have at least one child), is sent home every time their regular teacher is absent. Just so you know, even private schools have subs. Since you’ve ALWAYS been employed I’m sure you have enough money to pay for your child to be babysat or put in daycare for the say. I’m always sure since you’ve always been employed you have endless sick/personal days to take the day off if said teacher is out.

However, I suppose if I wanted to take blood (which I find personally disguisting) and work longer hours and more days, for the same pay as a full time perm teacher, I would take the classes and get a job as nurse. A job which is always in demand in my area. I suppose the HIGH turn over shows what a dream of a job it truly is, Ms. never been unemployed.

I suppose I’ll continue being stupid and bid my time while I wait for a job that has the same, if not more, starting salary as a nurse for less hours per day and a 190 (including in staff meetings where children aren’t at school) day work year.

> Ok, I’ve got to call you on this one. Many private and prestigious public universities have transfer policies with community colleges. You take the right courses, get good grades and you are automagically accepted into the “good” university for your last two years and get your degree from the “good” U at a significantly cheaper price. What’s not to love? No sob stories.

Call me you want. I wasn’t aware my telephone rang. Is this the type of language used in community college?

Most schools will not take all of your credits. You even said you have to choose the right classes. What are these right classes.

I suppose you if you do well on your SAT/ACT and have a good gpa, you might get to go to university for free or very cheaply for all four years.

I think the problem with most community college goers is they can just not accept the fact that they couldn’t get into a four year school for one reason or another. They want to blame price. That IMO is a sob story. Lemme guess, your bus was late/ your car broke down on the way to give in your application to some great school.

For what it’s worth, I taught in a public high school for several years, and as laughable as some of the subs they sent us over the years were, your apparent ignorance (on a multitude of subjects) will hopefully make ANY school principal who comes across your resume toss it right in the good ol’ shitcan, straightaway.

Obese people are sloppy, self- indulgent, lack discipline and probably have poor impulse control. When I see overweight people I often assume that they don’t take responsibility for their own lives. Same with people who smoke.
People who watch a lot of TV are intellectually lazy.
People who have multiple cats are mentally ill.
People who post a lot on message boards have sad and lonely lives.
Women who drive SUVs enjoy spending their families’ money on a status symbol more than saving money on gas.

Great sense of humor you’ve got there, Trubie. Hint: sarcasm/I was kidding.

I have to agree with you about the milk thing, though. Milk is vile.

You’re such a genius. I can tell you’re high educated. Shitcan. Wow, your prose would make Shakespeare jizz in his knickers. Taking one sentence of context. That’s NOT ignornant.

I’ll smile knowing how heartbroken you are when I get a full time teaching position.

So if you were offered a full time teaching gig at a community college you’d turn it down flat yes?

Fair enough, privacy is important. Would you be willing to share where you went to college?

Now that you’ve said that revealing the name of the college would reveal the state you’re in. If you hadn’t just said that, you could have named the college and no one could have reasonably presumed you were in that state, since people study out of state or move out of state all the time.
