Not long ago a young woman started making some pretty controversial posts to these fora, and got herself beat down pretty good. In a way, you could say it was richly deserved, for she came across as willfully ignorant and impervious to logic or reason, if not downright hateful. What it was that I found so inexplicably compelling about her posts I cannot say. Perhaps something about the inherent pathos of someone defending her outdated beliefs. Or perhaps it was her childlike innocence, her wide-eyed surprise at being so forcibly called on her ignorance that made me want to rush in and protect her. “It’s okay, darling,” I’d say, “You’re safe with me.” I was shocked at myself, needless to say. To be thus enraptured with someone so insulated, so laughably naive, with beliefs so antithetical to my own? It was very out of character for me. And yet… I was further shocked at myself when I read her first post in **cjhoworth** ’s thread about what homosexuals were supposed to do with themselves (that I don’t feel like linking to right now, sorry). Shocked, because I felt _proud_ of her. Actually, paternally, warm-fuzzily _proud_, because even though I still think she’s totally full of it on this issue, she’s qualifying her remarks, accepting that other worldviews exist and showing at least a _glimmer_ of this so-called light of Christian love I’m always hearing so much about. Is it wrong to be turned on by that? **His4Ever** , it would probably never work out between us. But aren’t you happy that you have your own official flirt thread? 😉 ---

This may sound rich coming from the last person to Pit His4Ever, but I’ve been in touch with her privately by e-mail (that’s right, _writhe_ with envy **cuauhtemoc** :)) and I think I’m seeing some signs of her trying to change the way she comes across. Go easy on her, please, Dopers? At least until she gets a chance to read and digest my version of “How Not To Make A Good Impression on the SDMB.” There’s a chance I might get to like her, too. I think **His4ever** is on her way to figuring things out. I also have been in contact via email with her for awhile now and she seems like a cool person. I think she’ll get a kick out of this thread **cuauhtemoc** but I also know she’s married so I’m pretty sure _Do not commit adultery_ has some significant meaning 😉 ---
