Strangest High School Team Mascots

I read the whole zombified thread without seeing my favorite and most politically incorrect high school mascot ever.

Still extant in Orifino ID.

10 internet bux to first one to identify mascot AND reason for controversy.

I think the hands-down strangest school mascot is that of the schools in Moodus, CT.

They’re the Noises.

That’s pretty wild.

Good one huh ?

I drove to Orifino and bought out the tiny supply of shirts with the HS and Mascot on them.

Still have one shirt.

Is this a thread to “hack” people’s password recovery questions?

No , not at all.
BTW, tell me about your first pet.

Indiana High School Mascots lists some of the more unusual ones in the state - including my favorites: Frankfort Hot Dogs (the mascot is a dachshund, alas), and Speedway Sparkplugs (yes, the town is named after the Indianapolis Speedway).

And rightfully so! The Moodus noises (the actual noises) are really freaky.

We were “The Flames”.

Not high school, but a small town near me has a little league team called the Yankees, and a youth football league called the Jets.

What’s so odd about that, you ask? Amesbury, Mass. is right outside of Boston.

Good to see Illinois here in the mix (and zombie remix) Orphans, Pretzels (my HS rival) and Appleknockers…
Carbondale IL HS are the terriers…yes the fluffy little dog!
I went to Millikin University in Decatur…The Big Blue. blue what? I asked, that’s it, just the Big Blue!

Webster University in St. Louis has the Gorlock. What is a Gorlock (those of you who don’t click the link, may ask)?

Well, you see, Webster University is located at the intersection of Gore and Lockwood. . .

I see that the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms were already mentioned thirteen years ago, but I feel that it needs to be brought up again, with a picture this time.

Speaking as someone from a different small Southern MN town, it’d be easier to make fun of them if their football team wasn’t always so good.

But there is also the Delphi Oracles, which I think has to be one of the greatest nicknames of all times.

One of my other favorites is the Logansport Berries, (Loganberries) who play basketball in the Berry Bowl and have Felix the Cat as their mascot.

My high school had The Grenadiers, which they always talked about during pep rallies as the bravest, most skilled soldiers who were given the honor of carrying short-fused bombs. They left off “craziest, most disposable.”

I used to live in Salem, MA, whose mascot was, of course, the Witches. Even the boy’s teams.

I currently teach at an all-girls high-school whose mascot is the Fighting Daisies. We’re looking for an alternative.

It used to be, back in the 1970s, at least, an actual hot dog. In a bun. A friend who moved away went there, and I had a t-shirt.

Hey, Hometownboy! I’m standing at my office window waving at your college alma mater across the street. Go Bearcats!

The Jordan, MN Hubmen - a railroading reference. The girl’s teams are, of course, referred to as the Jaguars.

The Maniacs. High School next door to the loony bin (hey, if they can be the maniacs I can use other non-PC terms)! Please send internet bux asap.

This is what a Maniac looks like: http://images.maxpreps.com/site_images/editorial/article/3/e/4/3e4b1508-1ed3-4312-9725-0f22eb82d903/8ac417d0-fa58-e211-9349-002655e6c126_original.jpg

Abington H.S. in suburban Philly. They are the Galloping Ghosts. Person on horse. Covered in a sheet. For all the world looking like a Klansman on his mount.

Seriously.

There is a high school near me in Poca, WV. Their mascot is a big red dot. They are the Poca Dots!
