So here we are, lame on a Saturday night, channel surfing. We get to the point where we are flipping between “The Princess Diaries” and something strange called “Hugo Pool”. Alyssa Milano, Sean Penn, Robert Downey Jr, and Richard Lewis among others. But just bizarre. Alyssa falls for a guy with ALS. To wierd for words. What is the strangest movie you’ve ever found by accident? ---

I laugh at you. Hot chick falls for guy with tragic illness. How is that weird? [Big Meat Eater](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0126814/) is weird. Perquitlam is a nice town, even if the mayor is corrupt and embezzling water department funding has led to a radiocactive meat sludge developing under the town butcher shop. Why, that could be the very thing young Jan needs to fuel his rocket car. But aliens (portrayed by wind up toy robots) want the sludge for themselves. And we have a crazed ex janitor killing people for no reason. But wait! It’s a musical! I stumbled across a copy at a flea market. ---

One night, in the middle of the night, I stumbled upon a movie that seemed to have Faye Dunaway, some scenes of somebody flying an airplane, and another guy doing a one-man imitation of _North by Northwest_. When I described it, a friend said, “Oh, that’s [I forget; too lazy to figure it out], it’s a great movie,” so I got a copy of it at Blockbuster. And it was a completely different movie. Another late night adventure. Jon Voigt in _Fearless Frank,_ which also features a character named “Plethora.” And I would love to know the name of this horror movie. A couple is driving along a deserted road. Things are weird. The couple are scared. (No reason given, but they are very nervous.) They drive along, getting more and more nervous, for no reason at all, and finally they see a house. Ah! At last! A place of respite! So they pull up to the end of the driveway of this house, and the man (who is driving the car), says, “Maybe they will help!” and he _honks his horn._ That was when I turned that one off. Now I regret it. I’ll never know… ---

When I was 12, I went to a sleepover party. It was out in the country, so they got some different programs showing on the TV. One of them was this weird horror flick, that we all stayed up to watch, called [The People Across the Lake](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095846/). One of those totally random, bad bad films you come across when you’re watching TV at 2 am. But the weird film I really want to see someday is \*Cannibal: The Musical \*, about Alferd Packer, as told by the Southparkians. ---

**The Forbidden Zone** was pretty strange. I absolutely loved it! Ah, the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo! **Greaser’s Palace** is even weirder, but isn’t as much fun. It has some great lines – and especially names – though. **Nekromantik** and **Nekromantik II** are a couple of the most disturbing films I’ve seen. **Gummo** is very strange. I first stumbled across it on cable at a friend’s house. And yes, I do own all of those films on DVD. ---

**Nekojiru**. It is an animated film about cats that has the most ‘wtf’ moments I have ever seen in a single movie. The director’s commentary only helps fuel the madness. There is no dialog, and I hadn’t read what it was about so I was saying “wtf” every 5 minutes. ---

[Jekyll and Hyde…Together Again](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084171/) I happened upon this one night and loved it. /spoiler It’s about a doctor who is working on an amazing drug. He decides to test the drug himself, IIRC. Or possibly he falls asleep in the lab and accidently inhales it. Whatever. Anyway when he takes it he turns into a party animal, his hair grows, gold chains and hair grow on his chest, rings grow on his fingers. He wakes up the next day normal, not too sure what happened. In one scene he wakes up his normal Doctor self in a bed with a girl and a sheep. He finally gets found out by his fiancee and his girlfriend. His fiance loves the party animal and the girlfriend loves the wild party animal and they all three go off happily ever after. Or something like that. /spoiler Anyway, I saw this thing like 10 times on late night TV when I was a kid and loved it. I’m knida scared to rent it or buy it because it probably sucks. Hard. Slee ---

That is an odd sort of movie. Some points: a) Jerry Lewis in a more-or-less dramatic role b) Lili Taylor with an obsession with turtles c) Lili Taylor occasionallly playing that “Arabian music” on an accordian c) The fish The “North by Northwest” piece was part of a talent show. Another person did the “Music Box” song from “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” ---

[Eraserhead.](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074486/) Has anyone else seen this? This is the movie David Lynch showed at Cannes. He sat in the projection room while it was being shown, and when he came out after it was over there was nobody in the theatre. ---

I’ll never forget stumbling across Jan Svankmajer’s [Faust](http://imdb.com/title/tt0109781/) on late night TV several years ago. It was during the scene when Faust first summons the devil and I was immediately hooked and creeped out by its bizzare imagery. I had no idea what movie this was, at first, but I recognized the main story elements so it didn’t take long time to track down the It’s basically a surrealist fugue that combines live action, stop-motion animation and puppetry in telling a very non-linear version of Goethe’s classic. Highly recommended for animation or surrealism buffs. And if you like this one, also check out [Alice](http://imdb.com/title/tt0095715/), easily the most creepiest and most disturbing adaptation of _Alice in Wonderland_ yet put to film.
