strategy type board game recommandations wanted

I have Quoridor, which four can play and I love it.

For a two person game, try dots-and-boxes. If you think it’s just a kid’s game, then you don’t have a clue.

Yeah, they don’t fit the criteria, but what the hell.

Actually If you want anything by steve jackson youll have to go through wizards of the coast since they own his catalog now … Unless you can find places thats selling older stuff

Since when did WoTC buy out SJG?

It’s probably not available anymore (although I understand that lineal-descendant computer games are), but one of my favorite Simulation war games of the pre-computer era was Wooden Ships and Iron Men, one of those hex-grid games that tries to duplicate real battles. In this case it’s Napoleonic era “ragwagon” battles between individual ships or fleets… What I like about the game is that, unlike so many simulations, it can be adapted for so many situations. After all, the ocean is a big flat green/blue plain with no landmarks. So you can play Constitution vs. Guerriere or The Battle of Lake Erie or the Battle of Trafalgar. Relatively simple rules make it easy to play, while doing a pretty good job of simulating the motion of real frigates. There are other sailing-ship games, but this was the best I’d played. The perfect gift for a Hornblower fan.

I recommend Kingmaker, set in the Wars of the Roses in England. The object of the game is to get your pretender to the throne crowned and to kill all the others. Not territorial per se, since you collect the trappings of power (titles, offices, Yorkist or Lancastrin princelings). It supports any number from three to eight or so players and straightforward.
