Streaming video files are usually placed in the Temporary Internet Files Folder, but sometimes they do not.

They have to be placed somewhere on the hard-drive – any idea where?

Actually, downloadable files are parked on your drive, but streaming files can be spooled in memory, played , and dumped without writing to the drive at all. Note too that by the same token that many streaming files have the “save” option disabled.

There’s a well hidden cache of every image/video you’ve ever viewed off of the internet, that is stored locally on your computer. This cache can be emptied, but I do not recall where it is exactly stored, on Windows XP.
Usually, a quick search for video files will turn up this cache…
