Students At Eton "Mollycoddled" (Question Inspired By The Crown)

One could say that the fact that the centers of power are waaay down one end of the British Isles and fairly inaccessible from the other, would actually be a positive reason for the future heir to the throne getting some exposure to the bits he wouldn’t normally spend much time in - which are, after all, full of British citizens, and like to have it remembered that they exist.

The top end of Scotland is actually closer to Oslo than it is to London. Which of those places counts as ‘remote’ very much depends on where you’re standing

(Also, the east coast of Scotland really isn’t wet. Cold AF, but not wet)

The perfect breeding ground for Scottish midge.

And once again you show you absolutely don’t know what you’re talking about.

But they’re home to a number of us.

If you think midges are a problem in NE Scotland you should avoid visiting NW Scotland

So Gordonstoun is in a well connected location with a mild climate mercifully unblighted by the mosquito infestation that pervades many other parts of Scotland at those latitudes.

Why ever did Prince Phillip would choose such a place to toughen up his son in preference to Eton?

I guess it must have been the regime, which worked for him so must surely work for his sensitive son. :smack:h

Thoughtless parenting by a domineering father.

Sadly you don’t have to be Royal to be dealt that particularly bad hand of cards at birth.

IIRC there was also a concern that Eton was less than an hour’s journey from all of the newspaper offices, at a time when the royal family’s relationship with the press was beginning to change for the worse (for them, at least). And Prince Philip didn’t exactly have the greatest relationship with the kind of establishment figures who sent their children to Eton, so he presumably wouldn’t have liked the idea of his children being raised like them.
