Studio 60 - 2/19 - 4 a.m. Miracle (here be spoilers)

I really thought the Coleridge / Kubla Khan bit was going to tie into Matt’s pill popping. Matt was looking for his 4 a.m. miracle. Coleridge had his 4 a.m. miracle (ok, maybe not literally) with Kubla Khan, but he got it while on opium. I guess bringing up an arc of a character using drugs to work through his writer’s block wouldn’t work when your series is in jeopardy.

Honestly, I think I could live without the series. I got into it because my girlfriend is a huge Perry fan, but I did like the snappy dialog (if sometimes nonsensical plots). But I haven’t connected with any of the characters, and at this point I don’t really care what happens to them.

Especially when you, as a series writer, has a history of drug abuse that affected your career. Just a little too close-to-home.

Count me as 8 or 12 or whatever we’re up to. I don’t think Monday at 10pm was a good time slot, especially after Heroes…the audience is different for each show. Anyone catch the references to slumping ratings on Studio 60 being discussed between the lawyer and Matt Albie?

I think Wed at 10pm, maybe to catch the old *Law & Order * fans (and that’s a whole 'nuther thread…WTF is going on with that show? I’m watching it out of loyalty, but dayum, it’s all over the place).

Here’s hoping *The Black Donnellys * tanks royally (*Friday Night Lights * also pulled miserable numbers when they tested it in the time slot) and they give *Studio 60 * another chance. I think it has excellent potential.

I for one am completely uninterested in The Black Donnellys, based on the promos I’ve seen. Irish brothers? Who hang out in pubs and fight a lot? Get out! Next you’ll be telling me the the theme music is “Danny Boy.”

Even if it’s good, I’d rather have mediocre Studio 60 than good Black Donnellys.

I’ll miss it, too. I would have loved a show where Matt and Danny talked the entire time.

Harriet was a real problem.

I was starting to like the silliness of the comedians, too.

Yeah, from the promos, the Black Donnellys is one of the best advertisements for reading since, well, since the last reality show. Obviously, Studio 60 is superior to baseball-bat-wielding lovable thugs.

But I lost something valuable when Sorkin left The West Wing and the show tanked without him. I missed that show and what it could do.

I won’t miss Studio 60 in the same way, is what I’m saying. It’s just a way to pass time, better than some but nothing special.

I agree. I’ll miss it. I bitch about it sucking but I still tuned in every week.

I chuckled when Harriet said, in effect, ‘Matt wouldn’t mess with someone to annoy someone who used to be friend’. I was thinking “Isn’t that why YOU were pissed at him when he was bidding on you for the Harriet Dinner? That he was doing it to screw with Luke?”

I thought the baby’s head springing up and scaring Jordan was classic TV.

Again, the banter between Matt and Danny was the show’s strength. Them trying things to get on the air was a strength. Matt and Harriet was not a strength.

Sorkin likes to repeat things. I was watching Sport’s Night (loved that show) and couldn’t count how many characters and lines of dialouge ended up in West Wing (loved that show too).

When Matt’s assistant said “I go home when you go home”, I thought “Margaret??”

I enjoyed this week more than I have the last few. I’m not sure I can say I’ll miss it, but I can say that I have no interest in the replacement show.

Alternate title for the replacement show: The O’Soprans
