Safeway/Dominick’s used to carry a honey ginger ale that was discontinued. I contacted the maker to see if anyone else distributed it in the area and the best they could do was to say “Check on Amazon”. Mail ordering soda isn’t really in the cards for me. ---

Naturally, you tossed the instructions aside and start mixing stuff at random. This led to a large blue stain on the carpet and, better yet, my penny-cleaning solution. I made a brew that instantly turned pennies bright and shiny. So I grabbed the giant spare coin jar and treated every penny we owned. An hour or two later, every one of them was bright green, presumably from corrosion. We were finding those green pennies in the house for the next 15+ years. ---

I hate mint, any type of mint, especially with toothpaste. For a short period of time, Colgate made a Colgate® Luminous™ Paradise Fresh which was clean tasting, but not minty. Suddenly, it’s dissappeared. There also used to be a razor called Flicker. Very simple and it is the ONLY razor that doesn’t cause a major case of razor burn. It’s been discontinued, so now I have to use an electric razor (no razor burn, but not a close shave, either.) ---

One thing I have absolutely not been able to find is an old-fashioned sink strainer. A triangular plastic (usually) container with holes in the bottom that sits in your sink and strains garbage. Looked all over the internet and found some antiques at high prices (they ought to cost a couple bucks) but it appears no one is making them any more. Not everyone has a garbage disposal. Mrs. Stahl’s knishes are no longer available, at least not at the Brighton Beach subway stop. And even in NYC, I have never been able to find old-fashioned rye bread. All sorts of things called rye bread, but not the real thing. ---
