9-11, My brother comes in to wake me up. “A plane just crashed into the World Trade Center!” Me: “I’m sure it’ll be on the news all day. After that, it’s old news.”

A couple minutes later he says “Now a plane just hit the Pentagon!” Me: “You freakin liar!” “No come look at the TV!” I was awestruck.

The one good decision I made that day, was when Dan Rather announces crude oil prices in Tokyo. I tossed my brother the keys to my car and said “Fill 'er up” an hour or so later there was a “gas crisis” that lasted a few hours.

Oh, for text evil-looking enough to describe the way I laughed. 😃 I actually ‘called’ a couple of major events in the Yankees-Sox Game 7. Matsui’s big double was one, but the other was when Boone stepped to bat. I started remeniscing about how his first few games as a Yankee had been horrible, but he turned it around after hitting a game-winning extra-inning homer. And we know what happened on the next pitch. 🙂

Ariel Sharon’s May 2nd Likud referendum on disengagement from the Gaza Strip and part of the West Bank will pass.

I had to rewrite a paper over _that_ little gem of wisdom. It makes me feel better, though, that a Middle East Policy article written in February predicted that Sharon’s government would end up adopting the Geneva Accord in fact, if not in name. Ah, schadenfreude. Nothing like it.

And until the last week of April, the polls were still showing a narrow victory for the referendum. So there. And there was a suicide bombing! Lousy suicide bombers, mucking up political forcasts.

Hey, it’s not our fault, brother. We trusted the President. Who could blame us?

Now, of course, we know better.

I suppose I should lump myself in with that crowd…except I never trusted the President (heh, got that one right, lol).

It wasn’t so much that I supported the war as that I figured we’d be able to kick Saddam out easily and then a new, democratic government in Iraq would spring up magically. I guess I didn’t think about the logistics involved in occupying a country…

**Khadaji** , I beg your indulgence to post a prediction that I read and have remembered for almost fifty years now. It still makes me howl:

In a school magazine called _Junior Scholastic_ in 1955, if I remember correctly, a writer predicted that rock and roll would definitely be out by the end of 1956!

Rock on! 😃

**TwoTrouts** and **Marley23** - thank you for the correction. I couldn’t find what year that song came out (gave up after about 10 minutes of waiting for the pages to reload - stoopid dial-up).

So… what’s your prediction for this November? 😉

“We need to get (4ish year old relative) to the Theater as early as possible, (patronizing voice) I\* know you have trouble being on time but lets shoot for 45 minutes early, because the lines for the \*_Country Bears \*\* are going to be sooo out of control, mmmkay_?” (/patronizing voice). 3 other people in the theater.

“Well my generation will never see _that_ (a 6.0% Interest Rate for a Mortgage from 1972ish) again”

I told all within earshot that there was “no way” the Redskins (this was the Team as of 5/10/04 is still Number 2 all time points scored in a season offense) lose to the Raiders, who the Skins had (narrowly) beat during the Regular Season.

Understanding this was early days, until “The Chase” and/or a few more facts were out, I was pretty sure that OJ was innocent – that the police were looking for headlines/on a fishing expedition and I predicted a BIG LAWSUIT : OJ vs the LAPD from which OJ would win a $1.00 (yes I had thought it out to that level)

Sunfish, if I were a betting man (and thank God I’m not, or else I’d be even poorer than I am) I’d bet that whoever wins, it will be really close.
