In the last couple of months, I’ve been inundated (well, if three counts as an inundation) with groups wanting to create an alumni directory. So I get cards in the mail and emails with “Please call this number and confirm your information.” I would be happy to, except that all these really are is an attempt to separate you from several hundred dollars in a hard sell. So look, National Eagle Scout Association, Arrowmen, and undergraduate college, I’d be happy to participate if you’d just give me a web address I could enter my information in. You could even attempt to sell me on there afterward. Hell, if you made a cheap enough copy I might even buy one. But don’t make me have to talk to a live person and then spend time saying “no interested” because I don’t want to just be rude and hang up. ---

You know what’s worse? My university’s _actual_ alumni association is constantly inundating me with offers to add me to directories in exchange for large sums of money. Like, I gave you fuckers $40,000 already - what more do you want? At least _Who’s Who_ and what not are supposed to be money-grubbing scum. ---

My high school puts out an alumni directory every 5 years or so. I fill out a form that they send me and mail it in, and the directory itself goes for about $60, so I buy one to catch up on what everyone is doing. I’ve never heard anything about an alumni directory from either of the colleges I have graduated from. ---

These are not as necessary thanks to the proliferation of Social Media
