# Stupid cat. How do I clean a leather coat?

Ahem. So . . . Cody left my leather trench coat on the floor, and before we know it, my tomcat Boom sprayed it. That’s what I get for letting Cody wear my coat, heh.
Ahem. Is there any way for me to clean this crap myself, or do I have to find aleather cleaner place?
So,
1- How to get rid of the cat odor?
2- On leather?
3- At home?
Stupid cat. he’s in so much trouble. Never sprayed before. :mad:

There are ways of cleaning leather at home, but for something like this, I’d recommend a specialist.

Hmm. There’s no safe cat odor neutralizer/leather cleaner?
Even a leather cleaning would be cool. I’ve never cleaned it before, but I figure now’s as good as time as any.
If only it was fabric, I’d toss it in the washer. Geh.

I hate to say it, but I think the coat should be chalked up as a complete loss. I don’t think it’s possible to get cat spray out of _anything_, let alone leather. Sorry…

I just cleaned my leather jacket a week ago. You soak a sponge with the cleaning solution, then wipe over the jacket. Seems like just a basic surface cleaner, it’s not designed to penetrate, and you’re not supposed to leave excess on. If the spray has penetrated the leather, the stuff I used won’t help.
You might try your local dry cleaner.

I’d recommend a “dry cleaner” specializing in cleaning leather, not just a regular type.

I’ve always used saddle soap on leather.Cleans and leaves the surface feeling soft.Don’t know if it gets rid of odor,tho,I never noticed any in the things I cleaned.

The coat is circling the drain as it is. I’d try sponging on some “Natures Miracle” (an enzymatic odor eater that works wonders, and is available at pet shops) The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to remove all the stink.
You’ll need to keep the affected areas moist with the stuff for at least 24 hours to let the enzymes do their bit. If it dries out, they aren’t effective.
Afterwards, you’ll need to put some leather conditioner on it. About the only bad side effect I can imagine would be that some color comes out of the leather. Assuming it’s black, it’ll be pretty easily re-dyed.
If the coat is lined, remove the lining if possible, and wash it separately.

Thanks for the advice **gotpasswords**. I’ll give that a try.
I really hope it isn’t a lost cause at this point. I like that coat. And Cody’ll hafta buy me a new one if that one’s trashed.

I had to throw away a leather jacket recently (got a new one for Christmas - woo hoo!) because of this same thing. The odor doesn’t come out. The dry cleaners I called wouldn’t guarantee that it would either. I called several first before just letting one try…it did not work.
I hope you get a different result.
