And another one, a memory brought on by tonite’s storm. It doesn’t rain much in Phoenix, but when it does, it usually comes all at once and the roads can’t handle it. Creeping up a non-major arterial, but a busy road nonetheless, the right lane was flooded, so we were all using the left. Guy in a jacked up 4x4 came screaming down the right lane, throwing flood waters all over all of us, obscuring vision and just being an ass. Until he hit a storm drain at which the force of the water/storm had forced the grate off. BOOM, he’s axle deep in the storm drain, and had a very sudden dead stop.
Hah! That made me laugh out loud! (I’m the world’s worst speedtrap detector - they can be right out in plain view, marked car and everything, and I just don’t see them.)
I’d say so.
Nobody. Well, maybe Hitler, and some of the less lighthearted members of Al Qaeda.
Hah! I love that, too!
These stories are awesome. I drove six hours each way to Sask. to pick up my Mom this week, and saw many, MANY stupid things on the road, but unfortunately, none of the stupids were caught. The stupidest thing I saw was a motorcyclist passing between the two lanes of traffic on a two-way highway - one lane going one way, the other lane going the other way, and he drove his cycle right between them. I nearly crapped my pants when he passed me that way (with traffic in the oncoming lane).

One of my favorite dumb-ass driver of the road stories was one time we were leaving a north Idaho ski resort a few years ago.
We’re politely filing out of the parking lot, preparing ourselves for the ten mile descent down the mountain, which involves a number of switchbacks. We’re in a Toyota 4Runner and behind a VW Beetle when this asshole driving an elevated 4x4 pickup with something like 48 inch tires…

I used to drive on I-80 between San Francisco and Reno/Tahoe pretty often, and every time it snowed, you could count on seeing several jacked-up SUVs and pickups spun out on the side of the road. More torque than traction, and definitely more speed than brains.
Watching the Russian dash cam footage on Youtube, one is sometimes rewarded with stupid drivers getting what they deserve.
But all too often they kill innocent people instead.
No kidding!
I have several on my personal and work vehicles. On Thursday we will air a story of the DWI I followed for 40 minutes while I was on the phone with police… and they never caught her.
When it shows I will link it.
This year I have been struck by other vehicles 3 times in my work truck. In two instances the other driver has tried to claim it was my fault. After I forward the appropriate footage to the insurance company, none of the other claims have continued.
At the prices dash cams are down to these days I can’t believe people don’t invest in them. Fifty dollars can save you immense grief. And I find that knowing I am recording myself has tempered my own driving as well, which is a good thing.
LOVE the part at 1:50 where a cow makes a break for it and busts out of the truck. Hope that cow found a nice life for itself in a little family farm somewhere.
One afternoon, I was riding a Metro fishbowl on my way home from work. We had just made the right turn from Kenmore onto Walter Reed and were stopped mostly into the left lane on Walter Reed while waiting to turn left onto Glebe.
Dunno why but I looked up from my Washington City Paper and glanced over my left shoulder. There was a little, brown Japanese sedan behind the bus. Shortly after I went back to reading my paper, there was this godawful grinding noise. I looked up again and that little, brown Japanese sedan was now in front of the bus! The sedan had literally squeezed by the bus! And was now pinned between the bus and the curb!
Yep, you guessed it: the driver of the sedan claimed the bus had hit her! Fortunately for the bus driver, I came forward with what I had seen and heard.
Totally awesome propane tanks burning and flying around in circles. I fucking love Russian car videos.
Because you get to see how the burning propane tanks ended up on fire. (second car video of same accident)
I don’t know how much of that I would believe as the first video has a date of 11/24/2013.
Yeah, people drive badly and can’t program their tech - the clue is in the name “Vodka Videos”. I’ve seen dozens of Russian driving videos; there’s no way you could make up that much stupid.
FWIW, it doesn’t look like it’s ‘CGI’ or staged.
My WAG would be that the dash cam wasn’t ‘set up’ right in the first place. (They forgot to set the date/time.)
SR 32 and SR 19 in Noblesville Indiana is known for being a busy stoplight intersection.
Over the years I’ve learned to be extremely cautious about pulling into traffic even on a green light from either road due to inattentive drivers.
On one such afternoon, I’m preparing to make a left turn from 19 onto 32, which is pretty much a blind turn. On the green, I edge forward with extreme care, looking at the oncoming lane – and hello – sure enough, here comes somebody, completely blowing through their red light.
At which time the MARKED squad car sitting in the opposite left turn lane lights ‘em up, and makes my day.
My favorite comeuppance video, both for the comeuppance and the sheer impatience exhibited by the driver. Like, is driving on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus’ flashing lights somehow a lesser offense than just ignoring the lights to begin with?
