Stupid email scam attempt (mild)

Tell ya what…next one I get, I’ll forward it to you, so you don’t feel left out.

Some lowlife signed up one of my emails to a kiddie porn ring!
I get the ickiest, nastiest email on that address.

On the other hand, all the viagra and penis enlargement ads in the other mailbox are wearing a bit thin… I don’t even have a penis to enlarge!

I get these all the time & forward them to abuse. My mom got one from her earthlink account to and was genuinely worried that her account was broken into and that she had to resubmit all her account and password info. Luckily she spoke to me first.

These scams work I guess.

I just got one of these too - apparently my account has been frozen due to teararizm or something. And I don’t have a citibank account.

Citibank certainly seem to know about this, just go here* and click on the link to see the dozens of scams that they’ve had.

Lynn, I’ve gotten the eBay and Paypal email scams, too. I checked their sites, and both have email addies to report what they call “spoof” emails. I reported mine and received a nice (if generic) thank you.
To report, simply forward the entire email with no header or text changes to : spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com
Hopefully these morons will get caught, and perhaps the legit companies can arrange to have the spammers’ desktops meet their colons. Up close and personal.

FB

I’ve gotten quite a few of these, especially the Ebay & PayPal ones.
And many of them are fairly well done, and could sucker in someone new who was a bit credulous.

But what bugs me is that the real companies concerned don’t seem to have anything on their website that specifically says this is not from us; it’s a fraud trying to get financial info from you! You’d think if these legitimate companies were really concerned about this, they would have a statement on their webpage about it. Something easily found by a possible victim of the scam. For example, entering the title or a couple keywords from the spam email should bring up an Ebay page exposing this fraud. But they don’t (or didn’t the last time I looked). Search them all you want, and it’s pretty hard to find a clear & specific page exposing this scam.
