The parallels between some of you guys and the crazy homophobes like Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Ann Coulter, etc… Is scary to say the least.
My sister had a yearbook picture a lot like that in 1990. Tight jeans, midriff bearing shirt. She was wearing a little leather jacket (it was 1990). Teased blonde long hair. Looking too sexy for her own good - a lot more sexy than she was really aware of.
To the best of my knowledge, she has never sold herself for money. She did have a rough few years fighting alcoholism, but did graduate with honors from UW-Madison, have a successful career before her drinking got out of hand, and now in recovery, is back to having a successful career. No porn career, no unwed motherhood, no Playboy spread, no attempt at a modeling career. She’s now married to a CPA.
Not a yearbook picture, but I would also not call that picture racy.
A fine tempest in a teapot, made palatable by hot pics of a barely legal teen.
Situation: Attention whore family, clumsy photos, very attractive but probably not quite supermodel teen, somewhat conservative administration, and a media looking for any sad excuse of a story to post pictures of hot young girls.
Thread: 1) Girl power! Rock it, baby! 2) Not the appropriate place, young lady! 3) Puritan women hating scum are everywhere! 4) Let’s critique the photos using a professional model’s lens. 5) I’d hit it.
Just to clarify, what attitude are you talking about that reminds you of Rick Perry and the others?
You know, people have been having this exact debate ever since this photo came out.
I graduated in 1980. (shut up up ) The only kids with photos not taken on picture day were the ones absent that day and on make up day. Even if you could not afford a set of photos, my h.s. paid for the shots to use on our student id cards.

When I was in high school, sophomores and juniors got their pictures taken on picture day by the official yearbook photographer (black and white). Seniors had their own (color) pictures taken on their own and submitted them to the yearbook individually.
This is how it was during my high school years as well.
But now that I think about it, there was a similar kind of outcry at my school about the yearbook when I was a freshman. There was a page on student tattoos and one of them was a flower on a girl’s ass. The crack was covered, but it was very clearly her ass. It made it into the yearbook and there was a bit of a local outcry. I think the teacher who took the photo may even have lost his job.
No, neither my head nor any other part of me is in a depressing place.
The second girl had a very good photo. Even people who are not perfect can take a good photo, and that was one.
I’m not “shaming” her for having a thick waist or anything else. Most people don’t have a perfect body. There is an old saying, accentuate the positive, and she clearly needs to learn how to do just that. And sorry, but she’s going to have to lose 10-15 pounds if she really wants to model professionally. She has made it very clear that those pictures are from her modeling portfolio, and they suck, but for many more reasons than just her weight. She doesn’t know how to pose or move, how to choose flattering clothes, how to be photographed, how to … anything. With some serious training and a lot of changes, I can see her getting some work. Right now, she’s the “what not to do” example.
I’m not pushing “unreal and unhealthy” “standards of extreme thinness”. For an 18 year old girl on the street, her weight is pretty good. Personally, I think she should drop 5, but if she’s happy, thats all that counts.
The family’s just being persecuted because they stand up for the First Amendment.
Typical of Amerikan Justice!
I wonder if the guy who took her mug shot said “Show us your tits!”
