That’s really messed up. I almost feel sorry for the parents, but then I remember that they caused this to happen.

What’s even more messed up is that the little girl could have easily shot someone else’s little kid, mother, or father. You can mitigate the risk of bear attacks, disease-bearing ticks, heat exhaustion, and twisted ankles. But you can’t do jack shit about random bullets coming out of nowhere. That is what freakin’ pisses me off about living amongst the gun-toting.

If we’re gonna hold the 2nd Amendment sacrosanct, then we all need to be issued bullet-proof vests or something.

Yes, I’m sure this feels great for you. You and your AR-15 toting friends have the US political system by the balls. We’re all terrified of you and helpless before your terrible recall might.

Man, are you in for a rude awakening.

BTW, how many new AR15s do you think were built and sold because of the most recent gun control push?

As many as could be bought by the proportion of doughy bald white guys with enough extra spending cash to buy extra guns they will never need.

I remember voting with my wallet when I bought the 2 Live Crew cassette tape back in 1989. Boy was I making a statement!

It kinda feels to me like it’s a race to see whether the Ted Nuuuugent types or the Elv1slives types alienate the middle entirely first.

You’re missing the point, which is that gun rights are not a fringe issue only important to a dismissible minority. Apparently the Democrats had to have this proven to them the hard way.

The only thing I would add is to say that these high capacity magazine “assault weapons” aren’t fringe anymore either, with much of the increase in popularity coming from the old assault weapon ban, Obama being elected, and attempts at a new assault weapon ban. It’s a common comment among shooters to say that nobody sells more guns than Obama, and for a long while you couldn’t buy a new 6 shot revolver from Smith & Wesson because they were putting all their production resources towards keeping up with demand for M&Ps.

Judging by voter turnout, I’d say fringe.

> I think that’s what the dems keep missing out on. That people who like guns, like them a lot more than anti-gunners hate them. Like them enough that they’ll compromise on all the above just so their second amendment rights are not further infringed. I think by leaving guns alone for years the dems really had a good thing going, but all the latest gun control talk did was scare a lot of folks into voting republican again, and of course helped (in a big way) make the AR15 the most popular rifle in America.

I know a few single issue gun voters. They are single issue voters in that they don’t vote unless that issue is on the table. You are not talking about losing votes you were never going to get anyways, you are talking about people who hardly ever vote suddenly giving a shit.

> [@ElvisL1ves](#):
>
> Always entirely the other guys’ fault, never your own fucking responsibility, right?

Riiiight and its never your fault either is it? Never your responsibility that Manchin Toomey failed right?

We’ve had this debate in great debates and the general consensus was that the AWB push was so fucking retarded that the gun grabbers hurt their own cause.

> [@](#):
>
> _Who’s_ making this a partisan issue?

Democrats mostly.

Do you assume a particular political leaning to people who own guns or support gun rights?

> [@](#):
>
> Are you looking at the same sources that tell you the stifling of Manchin-Toomey was Feinstein’s fault, nor yours? The sources you won’t bother to actually link for us?

What source, did I ever claim a source? Its common sense, you should go out and buy some.

I understand that you’re upset that your side never seems to win. Did you ever wonder if maybe you should try a different approach?

> So, just to prove gunnies aren’t all people killing assault rifle fetishists, they’ll make a military personnel killing assault rifle the number won most popular gun in America. Got it.

I thought we fought this particular piece of ignorance a long time ago. An AR-15 is no more or less dangerous than the same gun with a wood stock and wood front handguard.

> [@TonySinclair](#):
>
> I agree with your main point, but to be fair, it wasn’t the IMO very modest control measures that scared people. It was the batshit crazy characterization of those proposals, along with complete fictions, from right wing propagandists.

IMO you’re wrong. It was the irrationality of the AWB combined with the embarrassing ignorance of guns on the part of the gun grabbers.

> [@Zeriel](#):
>
> The worst part about this from a gun owner’s POV is that there’s nothing about the civvie version of the AR-15 that’s particularly “assault rifle” aside from the form factor–I hunt deer with a significantly more deadly rifle than the “standard” .223/5.56NATO AR-15 that the tacticlol people fetishize.

The parents CAUSED this to happen?!?!? THAT’S really messed up. Its a fucking tragedy, one that is vanishingly rare, thankfully.

>

The folks that bought those guns didn’t need any encouragement from anyone but Feinstein and Obama.

Well, I think both of us supported Manchin Toomey too but I for one am not surprised or particularly upset it didn’t pass. Remember, that shitty almost ineffective bill was all you could muster after you burned away all your political capital on an ignorant and retarded push for an AWB. Next time try not being so fucking dumb.

> [@Kable](#):
>
> It’s a common comment among shooters to say that nobody sells more guns than Obama,

Watch out, someone is going to ask you for a cite.

> [@levdrakon](#):
>

Obama won by 5 million votes nationwide.

He won by 126 electoral votes. So a swing of 64 electoral votes would have lost him the election.

He won 130 electoral votes with less than 53% of the vote.

He would almost certainly have lost 60 of those electoral votes (Florida, Virginia and Ohio) if he had made this sort of push on guns in his first term.

Elections are frequently determined by the margins. You’re never going to get Ted Nugent’s vote but there are a lot of otherwise non-voting gun owners who will vote Republican or Democratic leaning gun owning voters who will simply not vote or even swing to the Republican side.

Obama got 51.49% of the vote in Colorado. It is conceivable that he would have lost Colorado if he had run on his current gun position in the 2012 election.

What “general consensus”? The one that consists of you and the voices in your head?

Again, nothing by way of actual evidence.

On the whole, yes, and it isn’t an assumption. Which party does the NRA’s bidding (Manchin-Toomey, for example) and which does the bidding of the 80%?

I doubt that, but who cares? Irrelevant here. Obama won with something like 70% turnout. Morse was recalled at the end of his term limit anyway, with 15% turnout? Yes, that’s loony fringe getting lucky, which is how the NRA gets things done anyway.

That’s a trend that is going to take the nation? Let’s see what happens during the next general election, when voters get to actually vote, without being suppressed by sneaky voter suppression schemes like eliminating mail-in voting, and when a majority of non-loony voters actually give a crap.
