Thanks for your answer.

I don’t think I can actually have any sort of productive conversation then.

Thanks again though.

You’re welcome. I assume by productive you want me to agree with you that 2nd amendment rights should be limited to a greater extent than they are already. Yeah, you probably would be wasting your time. If you wanted to talk about common ground to save lives, prevent crimes and accidental deaths, that even gun nuts might agree to, let me know.

Hey, I’m the victim of someone trying to beat me to death with a 2x4 and I saved myself, and likely my girlfriend, with the use of a firearm. She might have just been raped though.

Switzerland is cool. In other countries, however, I have heard of certain minority groups having had a lot of problems over the years with a lack of ability to fight back whenever genocide has been en vogue.

I dunno. Throughout my lifetime, it’s seemed to me that countries run out of food, water and medicine, but when violence starts there’s never a shortage of guns and bullets. That’s the thing about gun owners thinking they need guns now to fight a theoretical takeover in the future. Realistically, if there were such a thing Canada and Mexico and I’d bet pretty much everybody who could get a boat or plane in would supply us with all the guns we need. Gotta keep those guns flying off the shelves.

That’s right and you left wing gun grabbers really know how to do that. 11.4 million in the first 6 months of this year alone.

To be fair, you can buy and sell full auto M60s and select fire M-16s under the NFA.

Dude, you’re hurting my gun nut cred 🆒 (Its already on thin ice because I support licensing and registration:eek:)

Do you really think the second amendment was meant to protect the right to hunt and shoot at paper targets? It may not be particularly relevant right now or anytime in the forseeable future, but do you really think the founding fathers stuck in a right to keep and bear arms just so Kable can shoot at paper targets and so I can take a gun hunting (and freeze my ass off at the crack of dawn and never see anything to shoot at… ever… I mean shit, at least with fishing, you can get drunk)?

> [@Knorf](#):

You’ll notice that almost all of them are bolt-action, single shot rifles. Weight distribution and balance are very important characteristics determining the accuracy of these rifles.

Yeah, I hear you. The most accurate guns may be bolt action but almost any gun is going to be more accurate than I am. As much as I blame bad equipment for my poor aim, if I’m missing the target at 100 yards, its not because my gun isn’t accurate enough, its because I’m not. If I’m missing at the sort of defensive ranges (under 20 yards) that I encountered at the obstacle course, its probably not the gun (like I said, I’m a bad shot but I can probably hit the bullseye as many times as Kable if you give him 10 shots and give me 60 or so).

So you agree that an AWB is silly? And we are only talking about banning stuff that is already banned right (which seems kinda pointless)?

I couldn’t really have complained, the US was already operating under a states rights interpretation of the second amendment (unless you think the supreme court would have judicially nullified the second amendment) whereby states had plenary power to regulate firearms. Virginia wasn’t going to crack down on gun owners just because the supreme court told them they could. I don’t think that we would have gotten a lot of federal restrictions under any scenario.

> [@Kable](#):
>
> How’s all your strategies working out thus far? Sure seems you gun grabbers have done is put “assault weapons” at the top of everyone’s buy list.

They’re making a push to ban silencers as well. Its like the only exposure they ever had to silencers is from James Bond movies.

> [@Knorf](#):
>
> Absolutely. I never said there was a connection between ownership itself and racism. I said there was a racist tinge to some of the paranoid, overheated gun advocacy rhetoric, a playing on white fear as a means to drum up emotional support.

I think you may be seeing racism where none really exists. You are seeing things in the most critical light, almost like you WANT to see the racism.

> [@](#):
>
> I also said I was disturbed in the past by the casual racism I witnessed among some white gun enthusiasts I used to encounter while hunting, shooting skeet, target practice, and so forth. It exists, believe me.

I believe you and I also believe that this might be the geographic correlation I am talking about. I don’t run into that kind of casual racism among gun owners here and I do run into it in other places.

Great, I’m going to have to buy a few more then. Gun grabbers are supposed to be environmentalists, you would think they would want to fight noise pollution too. It must be all those silencer assisted murders and suicides.:dubious:

No thanks.

I don’t think we would find any common ground whatsoever. I’m not in the United States, so I’m used to a firearm death rate 5 times less than you are accustomed to. I don’t have a 2nd ammendment either, so that political calculation is not in my frame of reference.

Most folks in my country are more comfortable with sacrificing individual “freedoms” for the common good, and we don’t call each other “nuts” too much either.

So best of luck to you.

You think the guns come because of the violence? You might have that a little bit backwards. How would a popular uprising ever occur in North Korea?

Maybe it’s a little bit of both.

> [@Kable](#):

> That’s right and you left wing gun grabbers really know how to do that. 11.4 million in the first 6 months of this year alone.

Well to be fair, its only about 3 million more guns than we had in the same period the prior year [http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/reports/total-nics-background-checks-1998\_2013\_monthly\_yearly\_totals-083113.pdf](http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/reports/total-nics-background-checks-1998_2013_monthly_yearly_totals-083113.pdf)

The chart says you can’t necessarily assume one to one correlation, some of these checks might be for multiple guns (which is a huge red flag for straw purchasing) and I don’t know if they backed out the failed background checks.

It should also be noted that people sold pre-existing guns in this period in private sales (if you were ever going to sell one of your guns this was the time to do it) and these sales would not require background checks.

True but last year was a record year too. Not to mention prior to Obama people were still buying lots of “traditional sporting arms” but in the in the last 5 years it’s been largely black rifles and pistols. Talk about a gun-grabber backfire. I guess they never read their psychology texts.😃

Hopefully, gun grabbers have learned their lesson and will stop trying to pass stupid and ineffective laws. But frankly based on the knee jerk reactions to the navy yard shooting, there’s really not a lot of hope. They’ll keep blaming inanimate objects keep doing nothing to actually reduce gun violence.

Sorry if that hit too close to home. I didn’t know you people had internet access. Since you do, maybe google a bit about what our country is based on. This quote comes to mind:

“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Ben Franklin

You people might disagree but at least you can see where real Americans are coming from.

Nukes aren’t guns dumbass. You’re comment does illustrate however why gun owners are unwilling to compromise.
