Mr. Carannante says that he will advise his neighbors when he will be shooting, I guess so they can gather their children and hide them in their basements.

I’m amazed there isn’t _something_ that would get in the way of this. Noise laws; attractive nuisance rules; something.

Did I miss the part of the conversation where someone advocated eliminating all the gun regulations that are already in place at the federal state and local levels? Guns are one of the most regulated legal products on the market.

I happen think licenses and gun registration is a good idea because it helps reduce the flow of guns into the hands of criminals through straw purchases. But I understand why some gun enthusiasts resist the idea. Too many of the anti-gun folks want to impose regulations to create barriers to legal gun ownership and ultimately they just want to ban guns entirely. I don’t worry about that because I don’t think we are EVER going to repeal the 2nd amendment or ban/confiscate guns at the federal level. I think that Democrats hurt themselves when pander to the anti-gun crowd too much

Ever heard of an “excluded middle”? Or are you not familiar with the idea that firearms can be used to kill things that aren’t human? To use your phrasing, please provide some cites that John Moses Browning developed the lever-action rifle with the sole and expressed purpose of murdering people with it. His model 1894 design is the [“best-selling high-powered rifle in U.S. history”](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_1894) and has likely killed millions of white-tailed deer and somewhat less than millions of people.

Speak for yourself. I’m a gun owner and am not at all paranoid. When we adopted our son I happily provided the State of Wisconsin with a list of all the guns I own. Make, model, and serial number. Didn’t even think twice about it. Registration, licensing, legal responsibility for securing your firearms, these all sound fine by me.

And yet, somehow, among all the carnage life goes on. Yesterday, more than 320 million people in the USA narrowly avoided being shot. More than 320 million people just barely dodged the hail of bullets the day before that, and in the month prior, 320 million souls ran with ragged breaths through my butts of splintering lead and the staccato crack-crack-crack that echo across every American street and somehow managed to stumble past their own thresholds with all of their original blood. God willing, tomorrow evening 320 million souls will again see their own beds with no more than a handful of minor flesh wounds. I’m still cleaning my neighbor’s blood off my kevlar vest. Thank God it’s Friday.

Short version: It’s not me getting shot, or anyone I know personally… so to hell with them.

None of this will make the slightest difference. Paranoid NRA members will just respond by adding to their stockpile of security guns. These guy have advanced way beyond normal thought patterns: they can only think of themselves and their own precious posteriors.

And let’s not pretend they have any sort of concern for their friends and loved ones. No: gun ownership is all about homicidal fantasies. Indeed they believe their kids are lucky if they get away with beatings: it beats a bullet in their head by Dad after all. That’s what guns are for.

[Cite](http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/nra-board-member-texas-bullet-in-kid). I’m not attacking the NRA in this post: I’m just making a calm reasoned description of their perspective and mentality, along with a contrast between them and normal people. Statistically speaking.

Yep, that’s exactly it. By sarcastically pointing out that our country of three hundred and twenty million people isn’t quite the constant bloodbath **Cartooniverse** seems to think it is, I am in fact only observing that I’m happy as long as I’m not personally a victim of gun violence. I applaud your insight and reading comprehension.
