One guy brought in a large unsealed box half-filled with glass vials and **no packing material** , ignoring the fact that even getting the box down the conveyor belt system to the trucks in the same building was likely to shatter them. TL;DR - don’t assume someone who would ship a loaded weapon is the sort of person to pack it sensibly. ---

I thought for a moment that of course this might simply be a smaller gun where there isn’t much of a gap between the center of the package and the likely location of the barrel path, but as you say this particular gun is a large handgun, it seems that’s discountable. And, of course, though you’re correct it isn’t necessarily so, there’s also the possibility that the gun is randomly positioned. Even if we say that the chances of the gun being uniformly packed vs. randomly packed is 50/50, that would cut your 50% estimate (minus the problems I’ve already mentioned) to 25% (Technically not; it would be much less than that, given the higher scope for non-threatening-bullet-paths with the random packing, and we’ve not even considered other people in the room, but this is purely for the sake of argument). So, not especially lucky, so far as I can tell. ---
