What number of preventable deaths do you find acceptable? Damuri insists on that same argument, but can’t do any more than define what we have now as acceptable. Acceptable to whom, too, while you’re at it? ---

A rocket scientist or a CERN physicist has their intelligence level reduced by having a gun at hand. Granted, automobiles, televisions, mobile phones: guns are not the only thing that make people stupid, but just about every other thing is not specifically designed with destruction in mind. This is a problem. The second issue is the underlying causes of gun violence and preventable deaths. Why do some people crave guns? I believe the primary factors are economic in origin. Societal imbalance and arbitrary financial pressures fuel the anxiety and paranoia that makes people feel the need to arm themselves in the first place. So, the preventable deaths are lamentable, but they are just a symptom of a much larger snarl of bad shit. Unless that gordian tangle is addressed in a meaningful way, the problems we have with firearms cannot be made less bad. ---
