Show me an expert who concluded after an investigation that a firearm did such a thing. IIRC the Remington 700 was accused of accidental discharge with the safety on. Product design defects are possible, they’re very rare but they’re possible. ---

Defensive gun uses measures in the hundreds of thousands a year. if your point is that we should make sure that people take a safety class or something, I can get on board with that but if you are trying to demonize an inanimate object then I’m not sure that your mind can be changed by facts. ---

The reason the gun went off “unexpectedly” was not because no one had pulled the trigger; it was because the person who pulled the trigger believed it was unloaded and therefore wouldn’t go bang. Positive Gun News: 5-year-old boy [successfully defends himself](https://www.cbs46.com/news/abandoning-a-weapon-leads-to-death-for-a-twelve-year-old-police-conclude/article_12eece7e-93c8-11ea-a6dd-5b6e4cf5ba4d.html) from his 12-year-old brother with a gun he found in the bushes. Apparently, the 5-year-old thought it was a toy, pointed at his brother and said “bang bang” before causing it to discharge. The 12-year-old was taken to the hospital, but the injuries proved too much for him. Earlier, in that area, police were pursuing some suspected drug dealers who jumped out of their car and engaged in some stochastic orienteering (ran away). It is thought that the gun was probably tossed in the bushes as the suspects made their escape. (I am wondering whether this also belongs in the **Stupid Drug War News of the Day** thread.) ---
