There may have beer involved, but a bunch of buddies and I were camping at a state park and this chipmunk (knowing that he was untouchable) kept running around looking for food, jumping on the picnic table and our chairs. My buddy Jake took a long fork (suitable for roasting marshmallows), threw it at the rodent and actually skewered it. ---

Chipmunks watch carefully before crossing the highway. I saw them doing this. You cannot kill them accidentally with your car, so you have to resort to more deliberate means. Because, kill things (especially if they blow up real good from regular bullets). ---

I saw an aerial shot of that truck last night. That was a specially designed armor plated LAPD bomb disposal truck. Now? Its smashed flatter than a coke can. ---

It would probably have worked fine if they detonated a few at a time–but instead they detonated the whole pile. I think the bomb squad generally knows what they are doing, and that the amount that they put in the truck would have been safe. I don’t think that it was the quantity, but the makeup of these devices that was the problem. I assume that they were of a much more potent explosive than expected. ---

This happened about a mile and a half from City Hall. Basically, downtown LA, more or less. I mean, I can see if they were facing a bomb with a ticking timer, but these were essentially inert explosives that were not really a pressing danger. They easily could have been transported to an area with not as many people, where the danger of damage/injury would much less. Like, nearby Disneyland. ---

I would assume that they were concerned that transporting them may set them off. How do we know that they were inert explosives? They were home made devices of unknown composition. They very well could have been sensitive to a number of environmental factors, including the shock and vibration of being transported to another location.
