I’m reserving judgement on that. The victim was hit 6 times, and lived to make it to the hospital. That sounds more like .22 than .223. Plus, 6 shots hitting from an AR-15 in the hands of a 12 year old? Unlikely. From a .22? Easily. Of course, time of death may be when somebody certified him dead. So he could easily have died on the way. ---

I only see that the 12-y/o fired six shots and some of them hit the guy. I am also a little on the edge on this one. There are pictures of the victim that show a somewhat-inked face, including at least two teardrops (below the outer corner of the right eye). That could be meaningful. ---

I had assumed it was something like [this](https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/m-p-15-22-sport-moe-sl-matte-black), the S&W M&P 15-22, which looks just like any other black tactical AR platform, just chambered in .22LR. This isn’t the only such option by any means, but gives you a visual representation that would very easily match the description in the news. ---

There are also adapters to allow an AR to shoot .22 cal. Mostly to save money on ammo when practicing. ---
