> How about some vintage liberal stupidity? Remember back in 2007 when Algore was predicting that the polar ice cap would be gone by 2014. [In case you don’t…](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPLD8aylRiw)
>
> Liberals believed this hogwash, including the media all over the world, and we had predictions that we are all going to drown. Well, Al, here we are in 2014 and guess what? [We got ice.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViYMwT0iSWc) But what the heck, you got rich off of it. That’s all that matters, right?

[big Al Gore :sigh:]

There is what **iiandyiiii** pointed out, even **Adaher** get is partially right, the science does not change because of who supports it. And this is not hogwash, as pointed before to you religion is in part a big driver of why the deniers of the science are at it. And it is no coincidence that the few scientists that are on the denier side are virtually all conservative or Republican.

One of the few ones remaining is (retired) [Roy Spencer, like many of the ones that throw bones to the deniers has a knack of getting it wrong, but deniers still lap up his bullshit.](http://bbickmore.wordpress.com/2011/07/26/just-put-the-model-down-roy/) [He is so clueless that he has no respect and he ended up, besides being a contributor to denier sites, “publishing” on religious **creationist** sites like Answersingenesis.org](https://answersingenesis.org/environmental-science/climate-change/should-we-be-concerned-about-climate-change/)

What I observed before stands **Clothahump** , you are blind to the fact that the blind are leading you.

In this subject the important thing is to see what the few conservative scientists (many polls do show that the higher the science level goes a scientist is less likely to be religious or Republican) that are experts on this are telling us.

Richard Alley and Kerry Emmanuel have been called to testify at congressional hearings, they support the consensus **but they were invited by the democrats to testify not the Republicans** , the reason was clear: it was a dramatic demonstration that [whoever made this issue a political litmus test did so in the most assholish and trolling ways](http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/climate-of-doubt/).

I will let conservative and still Republican\* Barry Brickmore, a scientist from BYU, to comment about what most Republican scientists think about Al Gore:

> **[“Why Don’t You Bash Al Gore?”](https://bbickmore.wordpress.com/2010/10/03/why-dont-you-bash-al-gore/)**
>

> [@](#):
>
> Since I took the plunge and started publicly criticizing certain climate change contrarians, notably certain Utah politicians and Christopher Monckton, people on the other side of the fence have often asked, “Why don’t you criticize Al Gore for all his misrepresentations?” The implication is that I, and others like me, are being intellectually dishonest by selectively criticizing only those who are pushing for doing nothing about climate change, while ignoring “alarmists” who exaggerate.
>
> If you really want to fathom why scientists like me typically don’t get all worked up about Al Gore, you have to understand a couple things from the outset.
>
> 1. Scientists expect journalists and popularizers to get a few things wrong when explaining scientific work.
>
> Most scientific work is pretty specialized, technical stuff. It isn’t easy to take something like that and boil it down for popular consumption without glossing over a few important points. The problem becomes worse when we try to explain our work in simplified terms to a journalist or popularizer, who will then try to boil it down even more for the masses. Boiling down technical information is a tricky balancing act, and it often takes an expert to tell when simplification crosses the line into blatant error.

> [@](#):
>
> 1. Gore’s documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth”, is not that bad, frankly.
>
> Yes, there are a couple errors. Yes, in a few cases he focuses on “worst-case scenarios,” rather than communicating the full range of risk. But the fact is that he got the most important points right, and the problems aren’t that serious from the perspective of most scientists who have examined the movie. Tim Lambert collected reactions from a number of scientists about a list of nine alleged errors in the movie, for example. While they didn’t always agree about the status of individual “errors,” there was general agreement that the list was too long. In most cases, it was questionable whether they were really errors at all.

> [@](#):
>
> In the cases where Gore presented “worst-case scenarios” instead of depicting the full range of risk, try to look at it from the perspective of the scientists involved. The vast majority of scientists are saying, “Human-induced climate change is very likely to be a very big problem, and somewhat likely to be a very, very big problem.” Are they supposed to get all worked up when a popularizer like Gore goes around saying it will be a very, very big problem? The reaction of most scientists has been exactly what it should be. “Well, maybe he overstated his case somewhat, but he got the gist right.”
>
> Now, contrast this with someone like Christopher Monckton, who goes about proclaiming that climate change is a “non-problem,” and to support his case he completely misrepresents the scientific literature he cites. Whom do you think scientists are going to want to spend their time criticizing?
>
> And no, I didn’t vote for Gore.

BTW, **it was the non-scientist Christopher Monkton the one that was invited by the Republicans to testify** in congress\*\*.

- Not sure about Richard Alley, but Kerry Emmanuel became an independent, it is very hard to remain a Republican when the leaders are ignoring the science and the Republican peanut gallery send threatening notes to you and your family. \*\*Now that is the real stupid idea and clearly there are mostly the Republicans doing it following the lead of the stupid and blind conservative media.
\*\*

\*\* To spread bullshit actually.

A very large number of disgruntled soldiers from the old Iraqi Army, rejected by anti-Sunni government, have joined ISIS (their enemy’s enemy) out of desperation. What would be a stupid idea is to _refuse_ to negotiate with them.

It must be one of the standard tricks they teach in conservative school. Purposefully misspell the name of your opponent to annoy him, then when he calls you out on it, laugh at him because he is being so petty. Something something then you win the debate

Amazingly enough, you are correct.

And the science is that the sun causes heating/warming cycles on Earth and has done so since the planet was formed and will continue to do so for a long time to come. The bullshit, which Gore spewed and people believed, is that humans are causing the cycles.

> And the science is that the sun causes heating/warming cycles on Earth and has done so since the planet was formed and will continue to do so for a long time to come. The bullshit, which Gore spewed and people believed, is that humans are causing the cycles.

Actually, the science is that there are a variety of factors that contribute to temperature cycles, including the amount of energy reaching the earth from the sun (from changes in orbit, and changes in the sun’s output), the reflectivity of the earth’s atmosphere, and the amount of heat retained by the earth (so-called greenhouse effect).

The science also shows, very clearly, that solar output has been remarkably consistent since the middle of the twentieth century, that the greenhouse effect has been significantly enhanced by human-created gasses, and that recent, short-run rises in global average temperatures are caused largely by human activity.

The scientists are not saying that the natural cycles don’t exist. They argue, based on massive amounts of evidence, that humans have exacerbated the natural cycles, and that we have made a significant separate contribution to global warming.

And if you’re going to spout off on what “the science is,” you need to have the integrity and the intelligence to admit that the scientific evidence for anthropogenic global warming is overwhelming. This is not something that the vast majority of scientists even believe is controversial. Denying it is almost as stupid as denying the existence of gravity, although you i must admit that you would not surprise me very much if you did that too.

So, according to **Clothahump** , liberals only observe what they want to observe … and yet it is conservatives like him who choose to ignore the overwhelming majority of the scientific community all because the unfortunate result of science’s conclusions might mean a Koch brother or two might take a hit on their stock returns.

And he calls liberals predictable. Here’s my next prediction for him: a plethora of “LOLs” and accusations of whining, in the most irritating, whiny posting style possible. Who wants action?

Did you happen to catch the title of this thread before you posted your so-called “classic liberal stupidity”, stupid blind dude? Over at the companion “Stupid Republican Idea of the day” thread they have no problem coming up with multiple _current_ Republican gaffes, while you dig up a decades old(and already covered multiple times) story. Thank heaven we have ex-cop martial arts instructors around to explain science to us.

Pretty much no one, except certain politicians and right-wing media pundits, seriously contend that human activities have nothing to do with climate change. This has been argued to death in this forum and you have no excuse for claiming otherwise.

I would say people do this because of your lengthy, documented history of getting facts hilariously wrong, your blind hostility on the frequent occasions when this is brought to your attention, and your utter inability to ever admit you might be wrong about something.

I’m not up on the politics over there, so I’m not sure if this was a “Liberal” thing, or a “cover up an ongoing major problem” thing, considering that files were disappeared and authorities were called in to investigate.
