You get it more these days (“Saint Ronnie”) than you did at the time; Reagan is revered by conservatives in hindsight like so many other things, with a rose-tinted view of the past allowed to stand in for the way things really were. On the subject of Helen Thomas: poor Helen really should have retired about a decade earlier than she did. During the latter years of the Clinton administration she really started becoming unhinged, and then full-blown Bush Derangement Syndrome set in. A sad end to someone who had had such a brilliant and accomplished career up to then. ---

Reagan has a 60+% approval rating. I’m not sure how that’s “divisive”. Plus Reagan wasn’t a scold towards those who disagree with him the way Obama is. Democrats denied that he did this, at least until they became the target of his scolding when Trade Promotion Authority came up for a vote. ---

I don’t recall Bush-41 ever being so reviled; it happened to GWB-43 only after some of his severe blunders. ---
