Sad, but not too surprising. He’s a very progressive Pope…but that’s a little like saying “a very liberal Puritan.” Catholic dogma is still obsessive regarding human sex-roles, and will take a long time before becoming reformed. Look how long it took them to accept Evolution, or even Geocentrism. They still oppose condoms for prevention of pregnancy. ---

I don’t condone the papacy myself, but its hard to imagine what people who love Bernie, a guy who worshiped the Pope enough to chase him, think of this. ---

Yes, fantastic, I don’t care what you think about the Pope. I asked a question awhile ago. Please explain how interacting with trans individuals will impact hypothetical children. I’m really seriously lost here - how will interaction mean that trans-sexuality will cause you to have more things you’ll have to worry about kids? ---

I think they’re great fun. But I don’t go through life with a “what would Garfield do” attitude on things. And he didn’t call trans-ism out for what it is. He called it out for what YOU want it to be. If you think it’s an affront to God, fine. But shut up about it. If you are scared that some people with innies want outties instead, and vice versa, fine. But shut up about it. You talk about this fucking issue more than Jack Chick talks about Jesus. We know. You’re scared of things you don’t understand, like how us progressive people don’t go apeshit because someone is different, and doesn’t want to be. Someone fully committing to the surgical procedures involved in a gender reassignment are some of the bravest people I can think of. If it were me in that situation, I hope I could be half as brave. You? You’re a bigoted little prick. I don’t know how you’ve made it this far in life with your head constantly up your ass. So I tell the pope, and you, to fuck off. ---

What is it with some people thinking that if we like one thing about a person, we have to like _everything_ about them? It’s entirely possible to praise the current Pope for being one of the most progressive Popes in history, while noting that “one of the most progressive Popes in history” is a pretty low bar. But hey, maybe we think encouraging the positive moves by the Pope is more important that castigating him for toeing a line the Catholic Church has been toeing for _literally millennia_. You can’t change something like that all at once, no matter how much we might like it if we could. ---

In addition to other’s comments I also believe that he is factually incorrect about what is being taught. It is not that you can “choose your gender” but that your intrinsic gender may not be accurately reflected by the sex displayed by your body. ---
