I was watching the BBC coverage of the shutdown, and they showed a clip of some smarmy Republican trying to spin it as the Democrats’ fault. It’s pretty obvious to an outsider who the real jackoffs are. Watching or reading about the shit-stirring antics of the GOP is like watching splatter horror. It’s repulsive, but there’s a morbid facilitation that keeps you watching. That aside, I would like to thank you, **clothahump** , for making me feel better about myself. I’m sure that you fill this role for many others on this board, selflessly offering yourself as a target of derision. It is surely a lonely path you tread. I just wanted you to know that your benevolence is not wholly unappreciated. ---

Since they took over the House, Republicans have voted to approve nine short-term funding bills to avoid government shutdowns – and each of these bills had no controversial riders attached to them. Since Republicans chose to abandon that non-controversial way to fund the government, it is obvious where the blame lies. ---

Even those weren’t “non-controversial” - they were and are ways to avoid taking any real responsibility for anything, which has been the trademark of the teabaggers all along. No, it takes a **Humpy/Shodan** level of stubborn partisan stupidity not to realize that the government is shut down simply because a minority faction wants to prevent millions of people from access to affordable health care insurance, and is unable to persuade anyone but themselves of their position. ---

See, here’s the problem… As illustrated above, **Humpy** is not stupid, he’s a liar. He knows the facts do not support his position and he simply does not care. He’s perfectly happy to build a world where we’ve always been at war with Eastasia as long as it’s his ideology that gets rammed down the throat. Truth has no value to him; message and party line are the ultimate goal of any discourse, facts be damned. To call him stupid is to simultaneously do him a disservice and underestimate him and his kind. The former is a mistake, the latter is dangerous. The people he has aligned himself with have no compunction with using the poorest and least represented people as pawns to obtain and maintain as much power as they can. They will withhold social services and healthcare from those who need it most as a bargaining tool; they’re no better than the criminal who puts a gun to the head of a child as a chip to trade with when caught in the act. Go ahead and fight the good fight with him, but realize he knows exactly what he’s doing. ---
