A sergeant serving with him says he’s a traitor. Now you can criticize Republicans for echoing such comments, but they certainly didn’t invent them, and to focus on them is actually to engage in “Look over there! Tea Party!” ---

What the hell does “served with” mean? Perhaps if you offered more in the way of substantiation when you make such bald statements? Merely a suggestion, you understand. ---

Two posters in a row try to legalese the issue to death. Which is fine if we’re talking about trying him for something. We’re not. We’re merely pointing out that the trade might not have been the best idea. And that regular soldiers who were there speaking out is not “swiftboating” or a smear campaign. They are risking punishment themselves for talking, something they wouldn’t do if they were just trying to help the Republicans. ---

No, you’re not quite getting it, here. Substantiation refers to offering support for a statement, some sourcing, for instance. Who told you this, what are their _boney fidos_, what reason have we to trust their information? ---

Did Berghdahl actually abandon his post? Then there’s been no Swift Boating of Berghdahl. And BTW an other than honorable discharge could mean a lot of things, many of which you wouldn’t consider proof of bad character. He could have been sleeping with his platoon sergeant for example. I’d also note that a journalist delving into the military records of critics of the administration’s actions is classic Swift Boating. ---

There is a bill before Bobby Jindal, passed by the Louisiana legislature, to require that brain-dead pregnant women be kept on life support until the baby is born. It’s a stupid idea, and I wanted to criticize the Republicans for it, until I discovered that the bill was written by a Democratic legislator. ---
