I’m sure someone is up to the challenge. Perhaps in its own dedicated thread.

It is unduly pushing up the post count here.

I mean, anything to help prop up this thread, tho, amirite? What is the record for the number of stupid liberal ideas posted in this thread in an entire month? Two?

Apparently, even trying to figure out why Obama is unpopular and Democrats are on the run is a waste of time to SDMB liberals.

So far, their only attempt to grapple with the issue is to attack conservatives who even mention that the President might not be as great as they think he is.

Oops. Update: he just dropped below 43%. On his way back down after expressing shock and surprise that he’s the President and that he should be finding out about things before they hit the newspapers:

Oh wait, the liberal contingent here thinks it’s because he didn’t fight hard enough for single payer.

You do realize of course, in **adaherworld** this is because that poll is horribly skewed.

The ones showing how unpopular Obama is? Not so much.

The main criticisms I hear about Obama are that he’s too “moderate,” and too willing to compromise with the Republicans. It’s not a harsh criticism, as most people understand the difficult position he’s in. However, it’s very easy to vent in a poll when even a guy you like and respect has crossed you on some issue.

Jobs in the current economy don’t pay as well as they did in the Clinton era.

To be fair, ever since the man got elected, we’ve had to endure the most persistent, Niagara-falls like stream of unhinged frothing mad hysteria that he’s the worst president of all time.

If and when I ever meet a conservative that didn’t spend 99 percent of their thinking time coming up with reasons why Obama is the worst human being who ever lived, I might value their input, even if I disagree with most of it.

As it stands right now, all the discussion is, is both sides shouting loud and insulting the other side. I tire of it.

I understand, Obama is so very terribad and you must tell us so. Great.

I disagree he’s that terribad. Can we possibly move on?

The root problem here is that whatever is wrong, it must be the Republicans’ fault. Even if many Democrats agree with parts of the Republican critique, and agree enough to vote with the Republicans and run ads echoing the Republicans.

This problem is not one that happens to truly moderate Presidents. It happens to partisan Presidents, presidents so partisan that the more conservative members of his party have to frantically scramble to disassociate themselves from him.

The idea that Obama is moderate and not particularly partisan is pure delusion. You’d have to be completely not paying attention to what’s been going on to just think REpublicans are the only ones with major issues about him. He’s got support in only one faction of his party: the liberal faction. You should think about why that is.

Okay, fine, fine. We’re only talking about stupid liberal ideas. Like the new carbon rules, which please only the far left and are causing Democrats in energy states to denounce the President.

In liberal-land, this means the President is “moderate”, since a Republican in 1976 might have supported these rules at one time in an interview. The fact that conservative Democrats are also against the new rules is a sign that Republicans are to blame.

Yeah. Having a bit of otherwise unallocated time, I worked out that posts are being added to this thread at only about 7% of the rate posts are being added to the “Stupid Republican Ideas” thread. And that’s with some of the liberals here actually helping **Clothahump** out with material.

With that said, **adaher** seems to be having a strong go at upping the June total.
If he’s bent over backwards as much as you claim, then how come he can’t even appease his own more conservative party members?

You can comfort yourself all you want with such pablum, but the reality is that he couldn’t even get all the Democrats to support ACA in the House. If Obama isn’t winning over conservative Democrats, he’s not trying.

So either Obama wasn’t trying, or he’s just that incompetent. And now he’s in the position of having conservative Dems spend more time attacking him than their Republican opponents.

And of course, a moderate Democrat wouldn’t find himself under fire by members of his own party so that they could save their own skins in the next election.

Repeat yourself much?

That’s an argument that we can have. What is not debateable is this nonsensical idea that Obama is moderate. Moderate Presidents are just as likely to get pushback from their left as from their right. We’re not seeing too much of a problem on Obama’s left. A few very minor nitpicks. Clinton experienced far more resistance on his left flank. On NAFTA and welfare reform, two rather big things during his administration, he was almost abandoned by the left wing of the party.

With Obama, it’s consistently the right wing of his party that bails on him, almost never the left. That’s a sign that he’s governing the way the left wing of his party wants. You can argue that this is the right way to govern, but you can’t argue that it’s moderate. And no, moderate 20 years ago doesn’t count. This is 2014, moderate governing is governing where the center of Congress and public opinion is right now. If both have moved to the right, that’s tough shit.

All of this is wrong. Obama gets lots of criticism from his left – you just don’t hear about it. And you’re not interested. Liberal blogs like Daily Kos are filled with critics (and supporters). He’s moderate, and moderate in the ‘now’ sense. Look at individual issue polling (as in 'where is the public at large on abortion, on the minimum wage, on individual aspects of health care, etc.) – he’s in the middle on just about every issue. Can you even name an issue that he’s not moderate on?

Daily Kos is your example? Clinton regularly lost liberal Democratic Congressmen on bills. Bush often lost his right flank. Name a couple of bills that Obama signed or supported, even if they didn’t reach his desk, that the liberal section of the party didn’t support.

The President is very consistent. On 95% or more of legislation that he signed or supported, he got the liberal Democrats, but often lost the conservative Democrats. There is very little, if anything, that he has signed or supported that got conservative Democrat votes but not liberal votes.

So you have zero examples of issues that Obama is not just about right in the middle, as far as single-issue polling of the public goes? Seriously – find an issue, find the polling, and show me that he’s way to the left of mainstream public opinion.

He gets the liberal Democrats for most things for the same reason he gets me – because the alternative is far worse. Most Democrats are moderates. A few Democrats are liberal, and a significant handful are conservative. Pretty much all the Republicans are conservative.
