> The words to **Happy Together**. “The only one for me is you, and you for me.” You just said the same thing twice, Dude! Yeah, I know you meant “and vice versa” and artistic license and blah, blah, blah. But now I hate your song because that’s all I can think about when I hear it, and I’d sooner turn it off than work myself into an unreasonable lather about the grammatical composition of some stupid 1960s earworm!

Similarly, the Pinhead Gunpowder song “Buffalo”, which says “and the laughter made us sadder / than my leaving could have had”. Such a good song, which becomes annoying every time I think too much about that line.

Here’s an entry in bizarre things that make me happy and anxious at the same time:
A few years ago, I decided that the best way to organize new MP3s was to put them in a dated folder so I’d know how long I’d had them; it makes[posts like this one](http://threateningloveletters.blogspot.com/2009/08/july-music.html) a breeze, too. This makes me happy on an organizational level, because somehow this makes more sense to me than just having them all in one folder. Don’t ask.

However, going back and seeing how long some songs have been in my collection **also** makes me anxious about how time passes quickly, too. Time where it seems like I haven’t accomplished much. (you know, “God, what have I done with my life since July 2007?” etc) Yet despite it somehow making me occasionally feel like a slacker, I’ve just created an August 09 folder…

Somehow, I doubt other people have issues with things like this.

Mom, is that you? 🙂

My mother is like that. She also start washing dishs while everyone else is eating (but before she starts) just to “get a head start”. She cannot, under any circumstances leave a bed unmade. Even in a hotel room (she won’t even go down for breakfast without making the bed). There’s nothing like getting up to quickly pee morning early and coming back to a made bed. In fact when I was a teen she once told me, in all seriousness, to always make the bed _in case the house catches on-fire or we get robbed_. Yeah, mom, heaven forbid some worthless thief thinks we are slobs.

I do this as well. It was worse before I had a dishwasher - there was no leaving dirty dishes in the sink overnight! I didn’t mind them sitting in the dish drainer, though. At least they were clean! Now I have a dishwasher, and dishes go straight into it; no dirty dishes sitting in the sink, EVER!
Conversely…

I almost never make my bed. I’ll pull the sheets and comforter up, and make it look sort of neat, but I only formally ‘make the bed’ if people are coming over, because they’d be walking past the bedroom to use the bathroom.

I can’t shower in comfort if I haven’t just brushed my teeth–otherwise, as I stand there getting all squeaky clean, I’m hyperaware of my nasty, not-so-fresh mouth because of the mere contrast. The converse is not true; brushing my teeth doesn’t make feel like I need a shower, and my morning teeth don’t really bug me if I’m still lounging around in bed, reading morning e-mail, etc.
