I live in New Mexico. Right before the Olympics in Atlanta, New Mexicans discovered that they weren’t able to buy tickets over the phone using credit cards because, “We can’t do international sales by phone.” People often call our tourism department asking what shots they’ll need and whether they should get an international driver’s license to drive here.
Strangely enough, people OUTSIDE the U.S. don’t seem to have any problem with the idea that it’s a state. Although I suppose that it would be okay for them to ask for postage rates.
And a couple weeks ago I had a brain fart and asked myself a stupid question. I was following a Corvette ZR1 on my way to work one morning, and noticed he had the license plate “ZX-EATR”. I spent 5 mins asking myself what kind of car a ZX was. I went thru Mustangs (huh?), Vipers, etc, and could not for the life of me think of it. I should probably mention I was driving a 300ZX at the time. When I finally realized it, I can’t convey the stupidity I felt. My only defense is it was a Monday…
