I guess he figured, as long as he’s already there he might as well try and fuck it up in his spare time. Idle hands being the devil’s landscaping tools or somesuch.

More seriously though, isn’t Congress nominally in charge of DC ? And Ted Cruz is, regrettably, a no-foolin’, people-actually-voted-for-this-muppet part of Congress, so his stupidity doesn’t seem devoid of legitimacy.

Well, he’s right. I suppose you think it’s just a coincidence that a Jew won an election in the Middle East?

Rick Santorum does everything he can to agree with a lady who is absolutely batshit crazy.

Among other things, she mentions Obama’s plot to nuke Charleston, which I somehow missed.

ETA: To be fair, I guess I would be afraid to say anything to upset (more than she already is) this woman, too.

It is technically in his power, sure.

But it’s a dick move. It’s bad enough that I don’t even get representation in congress without having people from freaking Texas trying to make changes that are widely opposed by basically the entire city.

The whole situation is frankly undemocratic and shameful.

And there were apparently audible gasps in one of the hearing rooms after Fiore referred to colleague Harvey Munford, D-Las Vegas, who is black, as the first “colored man to graduate from his high school.”

You probably know this already, but religious nutters like him think they are on a Mission From God to stamp out sin, which they define as people having sex outside of very narrow parameters. That, and Republicans hate DC. You know who lives here.

Washington was a bad idea anyway. They should’ve just made NYC or Philly the capital and not bothered about the question of federal control over the city.

Of course, Congress did get run out of Philly by unpaid soldiers, and the Governor and Militia of Pennsylvania wouldn’t help, so I can at least understand the notion.

Maybe we would be better off with an itinerant federal government. Move the whole shooting match to a new town every six months or so. If we were ever in a war on US soil, it would make the enemy’s job that much harder.

Nah. If we want defensibility and/or centrality, better we should move the capital to St. Louis and keep it there.

I could see a central capital as an excuse to revitalize Cairo, Illinois.

That copy of the video has been marked private for some reason. Here’s one that plays for me.

I almost felt sorry for Santorum as the lady was ranting at him; until he responded.

It’s disturbing how many people there are who are like this lady. She’s frantic and terrified over a bunch of crazy untrue bullshit.

As a proud St. Louisan, I approve of this idea. But I am forced to admit that the [geographical center of the contiguous US](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_center_of_the_contiguous_United_States) is closer to (gasp!) Kansas City or Wichita. And if you include Hawaii and Alaska, the [center](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_center_of_the_United_States) moves way over to about 50 miles north of Rapid City, South Dakota.

St. Louis is still a better choice because it’s on the Mississippi, America’s central waterway. And it is a city neither Eastern nor Western, neither Northern nor Southern – the ideal capital.

Why is it that Cairo never developed into a major city, anyway? It’s at the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers.

Personally, I think it would be funny to ask Santorum about Obama’s plot to taint our precious bodily fluids by contaminating the water supply with a mixture of lube and fecal matter.
