Fuck Texas.

Perhaps he should advise them that, while an independent Texas is completely off the table, we are willing to open a dialogue on giving it back to Mexico.

Oddly, I think of the form “as one does” as more typically American, while I tend to hear “as you do” from British (and other Commonwealth) English speakers. No idea if that’s an accurate representation of actual usage.

To quote from the Brownback article:

> [@](#):
>
> On Tuesday the governor set out on a four-city tour to re-enact his signing of SB95, which happened during a closed-door ceremony earlier this month.

I’m all excited. Will this be like a rock tour, with t-shirts bearing the tour’s itinerary on the back, worn by roadies who set up the replica desk and set and lights?

Who is the opening act, and how long is his set?

Will we be treated just to Brownback sitting at the desk and signing a replica of the bill, flanked by blown-up images of fetuses and by anti-abortion activists, or will there be a musical number, too? Or maybe a speech.

Not sure that counts as notably stupid, just a normal display of religiosity to a religious audience.

I’m picturing the Animatronic version of Brownback performing the show hourly at Disneyland Kansas for generations to come.

> **Cruz tries to blame Obama for 2008 crash**
>
> A few years ago, a statewide poll in Louisiana found that nearly a third of Republicans in the Pelican State blamed President Obama for the poor federal response to Hurricane Katrina. The nonsense was almost amusing – Katrina hit in August 2005; Obama was inaugurated in January 2009.
>
> But Louisiana Republicans aren’t the only ones blaming the president for things that happened before he took office. Philip Bump had this nice catch yesterday:
> Speaking at an event hosted by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) linked the economic policies of President Obama with those of the much-maligned Jimmy Carter. “Historically, the economy has grown 3.3 percent a year since World War II,” he said. “There are only two four-year periods where growth averaged less than 1 percent: 1978 to 1982, coming out of the Jimmy Carter administration, and 2008 to 2012. Same failed economic policies.”
>
> If you didn’t catch it, Cruz employed a nifty little bit of rhetorical spin there. What he’s actually comparing isn’t Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama. It’s Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush.

> **[Cruz tries to blame Obama for 2008 crash](https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/cruz-tries-blame-obama-2008-crash-msna586036)**
>
> It was only a matter of time before Republican presidential candidates starting blaming the president for the crash that happened on Bush/Cheney's watch.

That opening sentence about Katrina refers to a year and a half-old report, but it’s worth repeating – I wasn’t aware of this:

> [@](#):
>
> A large number of Louisiana Republicans think President Barack Obama is to blame for the federal government’s poor response to Hurricane Katrina, according to a new Public Policy Polling survey released Wednesday – despite the fact that the storm occurred three years before he took office.
>
> The Democratic-leaning polling firm, which provided its results to Talking Points Memo, found that 29 percent of Louisiana Republicans said Obama was responsible for the Katrina response. Twenty-eight percent put the blame on President George W. Bush, whose administration did in fact oversee the federal response to Katrina. Nearly half (44 percent) of the Louisiana Republicans polled didn’t know who to blame.

Rachel Maddow tells us Brownback has set aside $500,000 to defend the bill in the courts.

There’s probably some public cost to the gov’s statewide signing tour as well.

Meanwhile, many Kansas schools, starved of funds, will be [closing their doors early](http://www.inquisitr.com/1981269/kansas-schools-closing-early-blame-governors-budget-cuts/) this spring.

That laser focus on jobs exists only during campaign season.
