Rachel Maddow, she of the swan’s neck, girlish giggle and steel trap mind…just reminded me about the White Citizen’s Council, the very acme of virulent racism in its time. They changed their name, but not their tune. The Council of Conservative Citizen. “Conservative”, mind you. Barry Goldwater would puke his guts out. ---

There’s a story about Truman speaking before the KKK. They invited him, and he showed up. He had a haberdashery and his partner was Jewish. So, he said something like his partner had told him that there must be at least one Jew in the KKK, because only a Jew would think of cutting up and sewing a bedsheet and selling it to some dumb hick for $10.00. ---

I believe a number of candidates have returned the funds or donated them to charity, after getting their hands caught in the cookie jar, so to speak. This organization was kicked out of CPAC for being to racist in 1998. And 17 years later the GOP yahoos were happily accepting contributions from it? I wonder if there were secret dark money contributions to superpacs that haven’t been returned. ---
