I think Alan Keyes (remember him, he was Ben Carson a few election cycles ago) made the same kind of argument when he was carpet-bagged in to run against Obama for the Senate seat. He said that Obama didn’t have the authentic African American experience because he wasn’t descended from slaves. ---

So our first African American president is different from most AA’s. So what. ---

It matters little how you feel. What matters is how people see you. If somebody is willing to deny you of opportunity because of your race, they will care little how long ago your ancestors arrived from Africa. When people see him, what do they see? ---
